Stories like this have, for ages, treated men's desire to harm women as a sort of background noise, a weather we just normalize and accept and try to work around. Feminism is among other things a process of denormalization.

The real solution is collective, not individual: "Based on her study of more than 150 tribal societies, she identified what makes a society or culture “rape prone,” “rape free,” or something between the two.... in rape-free cultures, women have far more authority, status, safety, and freedom."

To the people complaining these sex abuse cases have created a world where men now have to think 10 times before they touch a woman. Yes, that's the point. It's called consent. Welcome to human decency.

Also reminder the best help for food pantries, or people struggling or any 'need' is cold hard cash. Always. Always always always. Food pantries can make that money stretch MUCH BETTER THAN YOU CAN, and it'll go to their most urgent needs. I mean, the other stuff is great too but cash is king

CEO pay is up 1,316% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 28%. CEOs are now paid 325 TIMES as much as the typical worker in their industry, according to @epi.org Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

DoorDash has ripped off more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers. We’re making them pay $131.5 million — the largest worker settlement in City history. This is New York, where hard work pays and greed will cost you.
DoorDash messed up.
They repeatedly left more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers underpaid or paid late, causing them immense stress and financial difficulty.
That's unacceptable.
We've secured a $131.5M settlement from
DoorDash - the largest worker settlement in NYC history and largest delivery worker settlement in
American municipal history.
Every worker will be paid what they are owed, and every company will be forced to abide by the laws of this city.

Trump’s illegal war on Iran has cost the average U.S. household more than $760 in higher energy costs. That’s on top of the military spending an estimated $1B per DAY to keep waging it, with no end in sight. Trump is losing his own war of choice — and we’re paying for it.

There have been so many impeachable offenses, but lying about how you were a hero on a day that 2,753 people died in NYC in the 9/11 disaster—when you were on the other side of town, safely calling local media to brag about how you now had the tallest downtown building—is such a despicable one

Do not normalize children dying from measles. Measles was previously eliminated in the US, thanks to vaccines. When children die from measles, it means that adults have catastrophically failed to protect them because they have rejected basic science.

We’re going to hear about how everyone loved Dolly, and that feels true. But it’s good to remember, and to her credit, that she was attacked for her AIDS activism, her vaccine advocacy, her LGBTQ+ support and even, more recently, for her reading initiatives. She ALWAYS stood firm when it mattered.

Watching a lecture on spirituality & the brain from ~2010. Very cool, but the lecturer pronounces the word cro-magnon as "cro-man-yon" & its tripping me out. First time I've heard that. Anyone know if it's more common in other languages? The lecturer has an American (maybe Canadian?) accent.

This political cartoon by artist Jesse Duquette highlights two distinct moments of political violence in American history:

Tulsa 1921: Refers to the Tulsa Race Massacre, where a white mob destroyed the prosperous Greenwood District.

D.C. 2021: Refers to the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol.

Message: The cartoon argues that these events demonstrate a historical pattern of accountability not being enforced for certain acts of violence.
