I’ve seen a few references to Google’s “Modern Web Guidance” over the last few days, and now seems like a good time to remind you not to rely on it: adrianroselli.com/2026/05/mayb... #a11y #accessibility

it was smart of jacob geller to only post about what he did to his 50k followers on here instead of to his 1.5 million youtube subs or on his patreon. that way fewer people know about it and he limits the financial hit

I think we are much better off than New Orleans in terms of flood risk, we can generally have basements unless you are foolish enough to build too close to a flood plain or ravines. It's ok I live in an apartment building, no basement anyway! 😂

Exactly yes, a SOP manual. It could be organized by different topics and include basic plans for finding appropriate third party vendors if the venue and associated hotels don't have them already or don't provide services or equipment in-house.

I don't think I've ever come across that in videos or from the beekeepers I've talked to, not saying it doesn't happen but I question how widespread the practice is.

I am not familiar with the details of how these Worldcons are organized but if they don't have a document they can share with best practices for various accessibility topics and tech, they are seriously just pretending to care about doing accessibility properly at these different venues.

Learning any craft like art isn't about 'Oh my brain knows how to move a pencil in the right way now' It's, 'my brain now understands how to perceive the world, how to break things down, how to analyse and strive and learn and how to combine all this into a refined skill'

People rely on AI for everything, but there some things AI could never do. It can't teach you good taste, which you get from living within a subject for years Or teach you patience, because you don't learn from mistakes over time Or teach the drive to self-improve because it only gives easy answers

We recently had a heavy storm event (not quite a hurricane but definitely lots of flash flooding) in Toronto and the emergency alarm system from the city officials sending us texts with the scary emergency broadcast network sounds was directly telling people to shelter in their basements 😵‍💫

Remember when us phil-tech types said effective altruism was just utilitarianism taken to its worst possible extents? This is what we meant: Real harm for unquantifiable potential benefit. "…'we believe that the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology….'"

As a big fan of conventions and accessibility person, reading this blog post broke my heart. So many volunteers or staff without a genuine desire to help make events more accessible, just "doing what I'm told" mentality all the way down. How did anyone on the accessibility team let this happen??

There may be issues with beekeeping when it's done on an industrial scale for pollination purposes but I think for candles and raw wax from local beekeepers, they treat their bees pretty well, maybe even better than they'd have it in the wild regarding pest treatment and winter help.

Thank you for the info! That makes sense about heating it making it stay liquid longer. Interesting to heat but not pasteurize, did it explain why? Just for the change in transparency and being more fluid than crystal? 🤔

I asked a friend why would we not want to pasteurize honey and she said some people think it destroys some nutrients in the honey... I just looked at her and said I do not consider honey my prime source of those nutrients! I think I get them in much more meaningful quantities in other foods!

Sunhawk @sunhawk.bsky.social · 21h
Went to buy a squeeze bottle of honey and they offered unpasteurized... Now I know honey is not as big a risk as say milk for risk of food-bourne disease spread from not pasteurizing but I think if we can pasteurize something, we should! Kill them germs

I love fall so much. I've lived in Vermont my whole life and foliage season still seems like such a completely bonkers and beautiful thing to happen every year. It never gets old. 🍂
Photo of a pile of leaves on vibrant dark green moss. I collected lots of fallen leaves of different colors from different plants and trees and arranged them in an egg-shaped gradient going from green at the top to yellow and then orange and then red to darkest reds at the bottom.

None of those LLM companies have any sort of meaningful AI, none of them contribute anything positive, the company doesn't matter, they are all selfish capitalist techbros who just want to dress up their greed as "for the good of humanity" which is obvious to anyone not drinking the koolaid.

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

It's not altruism because their efforts have led to an AI related situation where there's serious environmental harm, people have lost their jobs, people's health has been harmed, it's ruining the good parts of the internet and artists have been ripped off, and EA people don't give a shit.

You can't expect better. No one will ever hold a man to account. Holding men to account for abusing women is racist and imperialist and colonial and transphobic and even misogynistic, somehow. Isn't forgiveness in your nature, anyway? Aren't you a woman? Isn't this what you're for?
