The 12yo has declared it Atlantic Cranch Squid Awareness Day! The subarctic and temperate Atlantic Teuthowenia megalops is named for its big eyes. It’s a transparent glass squid with bioluminescent organs which can look like a bird when swimming so is also called a cockatoo squid.

Let's talk about the history of champagne bottles, the myth of Dom Pérignon & how England invented modern champagne. Dom Pierre Pérignon was a French Benedictine monk (1638-1715) who influenced French viticulture. And, ironically for someone associated with it, he tried to PREVENT champagne.

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.

Here's a weird but true fact: The enamel on these teeth is older than the bones (evolutionarily speaking). Enamel began as the hard outer layer of ancient fish scale, a substance called "ganoine". Over time, this skin armor became... well, teeth armor🦷. Let's talk about the Outside-In hypothesis.

Greater Roadrunner is just as wily as the coyote These clever birds eat a wide variety of prey from insects to lizards, snakes (including rattlers), small mammals (including baby a and 44), and birds! In the suburbs, Roadrunners regularly hunt birds at feeders- especially hummingbirds! Keep an eye on your feeders!

Two-panel comic with a fluffy black cat on a purple background. In the first panel the cat says that the “cat lady” stereotype is a cultural myth and that cat adoption is roughly 50-50 by gender. In the second panel the cat appears with huge eyes and says it supports any human willing to open cat food and wishes a happy Women’s Day while holding a small heart.
