When I moved from the dark greens of DC to southwestern Montana, it took a while to adjust to the gray-greens and golds of the landscape. And then it became part of my soul 💛 #LamarValley in #Yellowstone is one of the most peaceful places in this country. #BigSky #photography #beauty

Great place to also watch Yellowstone Cutthroats leaping up the rapids. Here's Harlequins at LeHardy Rapids. I go to watch them every Spring.

Highly recommend “Peace, Trout & Understanding” by @danosmond.bsky.social His stories capture the ups and downs of the angling life, and reflect a genuine love of fish, rivers and everything that matters. Thanks @jonogborne.bsky.social for the recommendation.

Perhaps my weirdest catch ever: a caecilian. These aquatic, limbless, mostly sightless amphibians are native to South America but have recently become established in South Florida canals. A real thrill to see one of these creatures up close.

Jospeh Priestley House. Northumberland, Pennsylvania. Priestley was a scientist who discovered oxygen & carbon monoxide, and a religious progressive chased out of England for his Unitarian views. Highly recommend Joe Jackson’s book “A World on Fire” for a compelling account of Priestley.
Joseph Priestley’s home in Northumberland, Pennsylvania, where he lived from 1794 until his death in 1804.

He emigrated to the United States after being forced out of England for his progressive religious views. He was best known as a visionary scientist and was highly regarded by Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson.

The home is an interesting historical site that has struggled with funding over the years, perhaps due to its off-the-beaten path location. Well worth the visit but check opening dates and hours.

European fallow deer have been moved far & wide since the Roman Empire (and likely sooner). They are the quintessential “park deer” and can now be found running wild and semi-wild on 6 continents. They’re also common on hunting ranches, game farms and safari parks. blog.nature.org/2021/08/02/h...
