I will note, as @jackschneider.bsky.social and others have, that schools are more than their math and reading scores (to be fair, the article says that is what it is focusing on), and thus there may be reasons beyond the matrix of the article to do some things.

#worcpoli if you're around this evening at 6, school committee is considering a resident petition to ban all flags from schools except for the US flag and military related flags. This comes as similar petitions around the country target teachers decorating with pride and/or BLM flags.

Really good edition right here from @aislinn.bsky.social on the nuances and pitfalls of a school redistricting process, particularly the background hum of property value and how one school committee member is being sorta obvious about it. Was a treat to edit and stoked to share it!

Redistricting decisions should be based on what creates a stronger and more equitable school system for all Worcester students. Transparency about how the proposal affects the people casting the final votes can help build public trust in that process.

That does not automatically mean any member has a conflict of interest. But before members deliberate and vote on a final plan, it could be appropriate to publicly disclose whether the proposal affects property they own and, where relevant, seek guidance from the State Ethics Commission.
