1000%. It is mind boggling that we are still having to fight for basic safe road engineering to prevent crashes, while grappling with misinformation campaign and all sort for weird lies.

This is WILD. Any policy changes of this nature need to go through City Council & get a public hearing. Why now? Why after a high-profile elected official incident? What prompted this? Who made the decision? Did the CM approve this? Why wasn’t council consulted? Why is this acceptable for WPD

Guys @blackjew.bsky.social is 4 hours into running a zoning board meeting as Chair, a fully volunteer role. During Eagles MNF. He's so deserving of this. Give him a vote! And with any luck this meeting will end soon so he can see the second half (and maybe restore the vibes).

There are no real “winners” from last night’s vote. There are still hundreds of folks lacking basics: food, a home and medical care. There are still councilors like Moe Bergman looking for ways to punish folks w fines. Still lawmakers more motivated by “how bad this looks”

It breaks my heart that we have to beg our city’s health & human services dept to not put people experiencing homelessness’ health & well-being in harms way.

The National Law Homelessness Center sent a five page letter telling city council + manager to scrape the awful anti-homeless camping ordianance. Cited multiple examples how this just does not work. Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce pits biz vs. unhoused folks, citing not a single solution.

Exactly! When the Governor could've eliminated that and not given ICE any iota of an opportunity to practice their cruelty. Why hasn't the governor eliminated this?

That said, I think that's not an issue of the responders on the scene. Frankly, I think this is how a 60 something white woman near the Shrewsbury line gets treated in the middle of the night on a Tuesday. "Ok grandma, let's get you home" is the whole vibe. That disparity is part of why we need CRB.

Where there is a clear disparity is that someone at WPD spent days scouring body cam footage of neighbors protecting an asylee mother from ICE for any bit of possible offense by @etelhaxhiaj.bsky.social. In contrast, this was completely swept under the rug despite clear relevance to Council business

I am closing this weird day with one thought. Had I been in that car on Sept. 3rd and instead of CC Toomey, it'd been CC Haxhiaj, I'd been tased, cuffed, arrested, video leaked, public mailers sent out, and ICE called. And, the police union leaders would personally show up to film the scene.

Get this. On the same night Worcester is subsidizing another hotel, they’re voting to fine unhoused folks $25 for sleeping outside. And making the dept., most adverse to accountability & transparency as one of the ordinance’s enforcement authorities.

Sen. Kennedy, the Board of Health Chair and NAACP Worcester Chapter president are among the speakers tonight in support of a Civilian Review Board. The chambers are packed with community members. The fight does not stop here. We got ways to go before something meaningful happens.

There were so many new and powerful speakers today representing our community's demand for civilian oversight. How many voices and communities does it take for this city council - the majority of whom are adverse to using their legislative power for good- to listen to community?

Etel Haxhiaj (ha-jee-eye) @etelhaxhiaj.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Pastor Rizutti's testimony was so powerful it hurt to listen to the things he's been through by WPD. Civilian Review Board should be the absolute bare miniumum policy and oversight they can put on. But most councilors seem completely uninterested.

CC Rosen was right to be frustrated. Also the cmt could’ve made a rec for CC to file a Home Rule Petition- that is 1 way the Council can initiate Charter Review. We took that vote in 2024 & it failed. Majority don’t want it. Period. The MLO cmt (sans Rosen) accomplished nothing but waste time.
