We are in the Cotswold for a few days and I am APPALLED by the behaviour of overseas tourists in the bus queues. Or bus not queues if you're from overseas. They sneak up in small groups to look at the timetable then stay there right by the bus stop regardless of how long the queue is.

Quick question. What's your UK local council doing about cyclists and scooters (e-machines and manual ones) riding carelessly and very fast on pavements with no thought for pedestrians & other pavement users? Are they trying education, bans, lobbying for regs? It can't just be an issue in my town.

Can anyone recommend any reading - books, articles, websites all welcome - about burials in England 19th to mid 20th C please? I've just started to look at this topic for my tree and everyone up to say 1950s is buried with up to a dozen strangers. #GenHour 1/2

#genealogy We get lots of advice and comments about people with unreliable (wrong) trees. But here's a thank you to those who do research properly & make their trees public. I was stuck on the father of one of my London Grimes - searches & other trees gave him as being born and dying in Gloucs.1/2

This is the huge tithe barn at Bradford on Avon. I'm on a visit to Wiltshire - my paternal g'father's mum's family were locals. Her parents, Richard and Maria Sims, were born in BoA & married in Trowbridge. Richard's father Job & his father were born in the small village of North Bradley. #genealogy

#genealogy #GenHour Am reading The North Road by Rob Cowen. And this passage, although about archaeology, is true of genealogy too. I'm working most days on husband's Irish tree and last night I was explaining how I'd proved that Mary really was living with her uncle Hugh in 1901 and 1911, ...

#genealogy #IrishGenealogy I have the bones of husband's Irish fam tree & am going to look at FANs. Now that I have three censuses to use I want to track families who lived on the same townlands; I think some of them are brothers, uncles etc. Anyone do this and happy to share how you record it? TIA

Been looking at husband's family in the #1926census Everyone I expected, bar one, is there. Good to have townlands of birth shown as a couple of mine were guesses. What did surprise me is the lack of spoken Irish in younger people compared to their parents and grandparents, even in rural Donegal.

#ShowMeYourKnits for cables wk. At Xmas we bought a new sofa bed which is a sea of beige, so I bought a couple of cushions and am making this cabled throw. It's in King Cole Thetford Forest aran, pattern is K C 5661. Biggest item I've ever knitted and it's taking sooo long!! I'm not even halfway 😥
Mid green cabled throw on the back of a beige sofa bed. The throw has three cabled sections and panels of knit and purl stitches. Pattern is King Cole 5661, yarn King Cole Thetford Forest aran.

Hello #seabirds Anyone here have knowledge of urban gulls in the UK? I live in a West Mids city opposite a large green space where a mixed flock of gulls spend a lot of time feeding in winter. I've lived here 4 years and each spring so far they have left around mid March. #seagulls

"On Holocaust Memorial Day we need more history, not just more memory" bit.ly/4t6wPx6 Dr Andy Pearce, Director of @uclholocaust.bsky.social, writes today on the RHS blog. #Skystorians
Front page of Royal Historical Society blog post with image of the Berlin Holocaust Memorial, photograph by Rudolph Simon, 2013, Wilkimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 3.0.

Text reads: "On Holocaust Memorial Day we need more history, not just more memory' and abstract: In this post, Andy Pearce – Director of the Centre for Holocaust Education at UCL – considers the current levels of knowledge of the Holocaust among UK secondary school students. UCL studies, in 2016 and 2026, reveal a troubling and enduring divergence between popular understandings of the persecution and murder of Jews in Europe, in the 1930s and 1940s, and the findings of scholarly historical research. 27 January 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Holocaust Memorial Day in Britain. As Andy argues, prevalent and popular misperceptions risk being sustained if the Holocaust becomes a subject for remembrance and memory, rather than of history and historical scholarship. It is only though ‘more history’, shared widely and publicly, that we may seek to redress error, distortion and denial."

More from my review of husband's Irish tree before the 1926 census. I've bought Ancestry's all access on special offer & can see all the US & Canada connections. More relatives left Ireland than I thought, fairly evenly split between men & women. Big job to follow them! ##genealogy #IrishGenealogy
