I am very proud to be represented in Congress by a Somali-American woman who came to this country as a refugee. But even if I wasn't, Somali people are my neighbors. We already taught the world once: we Minnesotans love our neighbors with our lives.

I wonder how nice Lisa Demuth & Michele Tafoya feel about the president inciting a pogrom on my neighbors. Will the Strib political desk look up from its civility politics and push them, noting Demuth effectively invited ICE here before or will they just accept an email from Tafoya’s human shields?

This week marks 9 months since Renée Good was killed by Federal Agents in Minneapolis. As your DFL-endorsed candidate for Hennepin County Attorney, I’ve never danced around this topic, or needed consultants and polling to tell me how to feel.

It’s fine to keep eyes on the polls on your normal travels through the ‘hood. Smile/wave placards that say Vote Today on corners (not too close to polling place tho). But if you haven’t taken a Democracy Defense training, remember your biggest E-Day work might be shooting down rumors & bad ideas.

Show up at the polls w/fluorescent vests & whistles? Cruise around polling place in car, bike or foot? Think how that looks to Jo Median Voter who has never seen that outside their polling place before. Remember how scary the trucks felt during the Uprising? Don’t do initimidators’ work for them.

I know there many earnest folks in Signal/similar groups (+ possibly some bad actors). But it’s important NOT to make things harder for election officials. We’re on your side & have strong systems in place. Think about what your ‘intervention” looks like to a voter who doesn’t know what’s going on.

Getting reports of bad election ideas in Signal groups. Defend democracy by shooting these down. No, you can’t show up at a precinct & be a challenger/observer. Those must be appointed by a party, nonpartisan campaign or ballot initiative. Letter must be accepted by officials. No letter, out you go.

Wow, sad -- that she has to have private security, and that the Strib doesn't seem to give a flying about a small, not-young woman's personal security. Moriarty is a hero in my view. She knows her stuff, works hard to get as much as can be accomplished given the system stacked against improvement.

When a convoy of federal paramilitary types roll through the Wedge and gas Mueller Park (seems like a small thing I know), I like when a prosecutor follows up.
A message from the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office

“To the members of the Wedge Neighborhood:

As many of you are aware, the Hennepin County Attorney's office launched the Transparency and Accountability Project (TAP) for the purpose of collecting and assessing evidence of unlawful behavior committed by federal law enforcement during Operation Metro Surge.

Many members of your community have already come forward to share their videos and experiences from the Mueller Park incident on January 21st. As our investigation moves forward, we are hoping to connect with more people who were present at the park that afternoon. Customs and Border Patrol officers sprayed and used force against several people and we would like a chance to talk to everyone affected.

If you would like to schedule a time to talk more about our investigation, and if you are willing to provide a formal statement to our investigator, please do not hesitate to reach out. You can submit videos and narratives and contact information through our portal (link copied below) or you can reach out to our investigator directly. Her contact information is also copied below. Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation.”
