Swamp rose mallow hibiscus decided this beautiful morning was finally time to bust out in bloom.
Three dinner plate sized pink hibiscus with magenta centers and yellow pistil. At least a dozen more buds can be seen as well.

“Half-asleep half-awake, we face each other.” A poem by Jim Daniels.
Brushing Teeth with My Sister after the Wake

BY JIM DANIELS

at my kitchen sink, the bathroom upstairs
clogged with family from out of town
spending the night after the wake
and the after—wake—cold beverages
have been consumed and comfort food,
leftovers bulging both the fridge
and the mini-fridge. In our fifties, both
half-asleep half-awake, we face each
other. My sister's smile foams white
down her chin at the end of a day
on which no one has smiled. We laugh.
We may never brush our teeth together again.
No mirror down here to see our haggard faces.
We rinse, we spit. As we were taught.

Captain Haddock tries to say "What a week, huh?" but because he is waiting for his new indie videogame to be revealed he begins collapsing into a curve of depressed space time that distorts his perceptual reality beyond the point of comprehension, his best friend Tintin collapsing in on himself like a paper lantern, Snowy meanwhile is simultaneously alive and dead, his existence stretched out across the entirety of human history. The captain just wants the PC Gaming Show to happen already, but he knows it is the final showcase of SGF and for that reason will appear to get further away the closer it gets, a paradoxical logic to the captain at this moment in time, seems more real than reality itself.

Supper Mario Broth @mariobrothblog.bsky.social · 04/04/2026
In 1993, the Japanese Famitsu magazine inquired Nintendo about Mario's favorite foods. Nintendo replied that Mario's favorite foods are mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and surprisingly, edible chrysanthemums.
In a 1993 issue of Famitsu, the magazine reached out to Nintendo Japan to answer questions related
to Mario for the release of Super Mario All-Stars. One of them was about "Mario's favorite foods":
「マリオはキノコが好物なのはもちろんのこと、タマネギやピーマン、食用ギクなども好きなんですよ」(任天堂)
"Mario loves mushrooms, of
course, but he also likes onions,
bell peppers, and edible
chrysanthemums" (Nintendo)

A detail from Ursula K. Le Guin’s Book of Cats (Library of America, 2025).
The corner of p. 79 in Ursula K. Le Guin's Book of Cats shows Ursula's drawing of a scruffy little cat, all black with green eyes and a slightly grumpy expression, sitting upright with her tail curled in front of her.
