We hear so much about how restoring cars helped businesses on State Street after they killed off the transit/pedestrian mall 30 years ago. Pedestrianized Sundays on State events have been shown to bring in $157 per attendee across 67K per day in 2021, for $10M/day per the Loop Alliance.

With the most robust rail network in the American Midwest, Chicago has the 2nd largest number of car-free households of any metro area (behind only NYC) Most of those households live around the L, especially the Red Line and western parts of the Blue & Green Lines

Great to see Bronzeville keep turning empty lots into 3-flats. ACS data is only through 2023, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear total population along the south lakefront neighborhoods is back at post-2000s highs by now.

Taiwan is a major trading partner for IL & what stands out during my visit here is their amazing transit system. Trains are spotless, safe & EXACTLY on time. It’s efficient & trusted by millions every day. Chicago can get here. Reliable public transit should be a top priority of a thriving city.
