Disappointed that @duckworth.senate.gov said she wants to work with Trump. Your goal is to get him to resign and to stop bad things, not build a bridge to insanity

They should put this on the Lakefront Trail to keep cars out. It’d be almost big enough to stop some of them from driving on the path

So baby boomers gave themselves big pensions, didn’t fund pensions while they were working, mandated that pensions cannot be lowered, and now want us to pay for their pensions AND the pensions of people who currently actually work for the city, which is cool

Immigration enforcement including Midway Blitz cost Cook County more tha $1 billion, the Great Cities Institute at the University of Illinois Chicago found, and we first reported over the weekend www.chicagotribune.com/2026/09/06/c...

Operation Midway Blitz, one year later: A changed Chicago forges on after the resistance
For 64 days, the federal government carried out a militarized immigration enforcement operation under the guise of making Chicago safer. A year later, why do people still feel so unsafe?

When Bike the Drive first started it was very early, like 5am-10am. Now you get until Noon. Progress, I guess? Although a great city would close it the entire day…

"In Springfield, the heightened level of fear is so widespread, and the state-imposed terror against a vulnerable minority so constant, that it is impossible to see this as anything but Trump's proof of concept for the president’s militarized vision of what America should be." Nails the stakes:

Pritzker: So here’s the truth, plain and simple: Our state is under siege. Not by protesters, immigrants, the deep state, the press, Canada or Mexico or Greenland, Antifa or Jewish space lasers or pride parades. No. Our state's under siege by a petty, corrupt man in Washington.

Elevation: Leveling the intersection creates a continuous sidewalk. Texture: Swapping asphalt for brick adds acoustic and visual friction. Constraint: Narrowing the lanes forces focus, while bollards introduce vertical visual friction. The design demands slow, safe behavior.

If commercial flights or trains killed 7,000 bystanders a year, the entire industry would be halted immediately. Because it's cars, the government just shrugs and lets them build the hoods higher.

The mayor is probably crying because he is basically losing control of the CTA to the new regional transit agency, but he had plenty of opportunities to appoint people to do things like this — and just didn’t

This happens within Chicago! Alderman have fiefdom over their streets. So richer areas that are progressive (good chunks of the N side) have great infrastructure, while the many other alders block it

Riding bikes is 10X more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities. And that’s just the climate emissions. Doesn’t include the massive public & personal cost difference, the air & noise pollution difference, the massive space difference, etc, etc…Via @theconversation.bsky.social

Cycling is ten times more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities
Active travel can help tackle the climate crisis earlier than electric vehicles – even if you swap the car for a bike for just one trip a day.

Can’t wait for the new transit agency in the Chicago area to take over. Maybe they can fix the Ventra app. (And maybe Metra can actually take Ventra.) There’s a bug in the Ventra app where if a train is extremely late, it incorrectly shows up as having departed. Train 306 is late, not departed.

Does any NFL stadium in any city contribute meaningfully to the local economy? They’re all just parking lots with a field in the center to tailgate in

Bike lanes are for bikes. Not passing. Not “running inside for a second.” Every time you park in a bike lane, you put someone’s life at risk.

Hey, we just learned that the Obama Center has *sheltered* bike parking. 🚲 🅿️ 🥳 Don't worry Trent, when folks learn where the racks are at the OPC, they'll use them. A well-marked, low-stress cycling route from and to the Lakefront would also help. @obamafoundation.bsky.social @stevevance.net

The rise of larger vehicles like SUVs and pickup trucks, with their taller hoods and larger blind zones, has contributed to a 75% increase in pedestrian and cyclist deaths since 2009. Until we design better streets and ban these vehicles, people outside these vehicles will keep dying.
