Finally got to see Chabrol’s last film, Bellamy, via a free trial subscription of the France Channel. It’s a little gem of a film, with all the twists and twistedness one would expect of late Chabrol. It’s impossible to pick up a reasonably priced DVD of the film, so catch it while you can

Today I heard someone use the Human Centipede as a way to explain why large model AI is inevitably heading towards its own self destruction by tainting its future inputs, and honestly? It was a beautiful teaching metaphor.

I don’t find this surprising in the least. I mean, people who waste their time chatting to bots and reading text pushed out by bullshit machines seem ideally suited to drinking piss

when ai leaves u behind
7 panel comic.

Panel 1:
A Red Guy with AI across his chest looks like he’s about to run away. A Yellow Guy stands next to him. Red Guy says “I’m the future, buddy. You comin’?”
Yellow Guy replies “Nah”

Panel 2:
Red Guy is almost out of the panel. He leans in and says “Enjoy getting left behind, pal”
Yellow Guy replies “ok”

Panel 3:
Yellow Guy stands alone.

Panel 4:
Close up on Yellow Guy, there is a quiet “huff-huff-huff” noise coming from behind him

Panel 5:
Yellow Guy turns to look behind him

Panel 6:
Close up on Yellow Guy’s face as if from the point of view of an attacker.
Yellow Guy yells “Jesus Christ”

Panel 7:
AI Red Guy is now chasing the Yellow Guy.
Red Guy: “Use me”
Yellow Guy “No”
Red Guy “USE ME”

The head of the French delegation to the UN General Assembly goes missing Finally got to see Jean-Pierre Melville’s lesser film, ‘Deux hommes dans Manhattan’ (1959) Great nighttime shots of NYC with a Nouvelle Vague sensibility, but they don’t behave like gentlemen. They treat women abominably

Do these people not want to develop their own writing styles? Imagine publishing outputs expressed in dull median-English AI slop under your name. Any faculty member who cannot express arguments and ideas in writing is obviously in the wrong fucking job.

“Oh, how much there is to do here for my hands!” It’s reassuring that, in his Suite on Verses of Michelangelo Buonarroti (op. 145a), composed the year before he died, Shostakovich could still ponder such things. But the song cycle soon gets around to the subject of death!
The text of Michelangelo’s poem ‘morning’, about the alluring garb of a young woman for whom he obviously had strong feelings (from the booklet in the Capriccio two CD set of Shostakovich’s “Russian Romances”, conducted by Michail Jurowski)

To bang my drum once again: universities need to resist this process, not embrace the “promises” of “AI” (by which HE managers refer to rubbish bullshit machines) We need to empower students to reject the use of LLMs, not assist in young people becoming dependent on them for “thinking” & “writing”
