Trump is a filthy bastard. His collusion with russia amounts to high treason. While Moscow continues to escalate its massacres of Ukrainians, Trump is offering criminals money. It's a strong incentive for the Ukrainians to bomb russian refineries even more—the Europeans must help them decisively.

A death, a plagiarism scandal and a quest for revenge: the bizarre tale of Otto Z
The long read: After his mother died, Otto became convinced he’d been wronged by the forensic investigators – and that one of them was a fraud. The truth was even stranger

The peddlers of bullshit machines (which many of you call "generative AI" or just "AI") are FUCKING WEIRDOS and conmen (they are all men) Universities: we need to embed AI in our curricula and pedagogy! No, universities need to empower students to research, read, write and think critically

Finally got to see Chabrol’s last film, Bellamy, via a free trial subscription of the France Channel. It’s a little gem of a film, with all the twists and twistedness one would expect of late Chabrol. It’s impossible to pick up a reasonably priced DVD of the film, so catch it while you can

Today I heard someone use the Human Centipede as a way to explain why large model AI is inevitably heading towards its own self destruction by tainting its future inputs, and honestly? It was a beautiful teaching metaphor.

Chabrol's philosophy was to have a good time when filming, fueled by fine dining. He argued: "Creativity is aided by happiness'; 'You never know if a film will work, nor if it will be a success. On the other hand, you can always make the filming work, & make it a success' (quoted in Austin 1999: 6)

“Oh, how much there is to do here for my hands!” It’s reassuring that, in his Suite on Verses of Michelangelo Buonarroti (op. 145a), composed the year before he died, Shostakovich could still ponder such things. But the song cycle soon gets around to the subject of death!
The text of Michelangelo’s poem ‘morning’, about the alluring garb of a young woman for whom he obviously had strong feelings (from the booklet in the Capriccio two CD set of Shostakovich’s “Russian Romances”, conducted by Michail Jurowski)
