Patreon backers have a new 500 Songs bonus episode, two hours and twenty minutes on the Bee Gees -- the pre-Batley years. In which, mostly, Robin Gibb has a bad time of things.

This is the problem I've had with all the remixes. And it's not just "on streaming". The original mixes of all the post-1966 Beatles albums are out of print physically too.

Deram Records was launched 60 years ago today. Bowie, Beverley, Cat Stevens, Move, Moodies, Mike Westbrook. “A Whiter Shade of Pale”, “Nothing But a Heartache”, “Michael Angelo“, “I Can’t Let Maggie Go”, “Beggin’”, “Rebels Rule”, “Vacuum Cleaner”. Blummin’ “I Was Kaiser Bill’s Batman”. Some label!
Scan of a 1966 launching Deram as “the great new label from Decca” and listing their first releases - singles from Beverley and Cat Stevens and an LP by Johnny Howard.

Back In Your Life - again echoes of those early 70s Stones’ ballads. A perfect ‘closer’. Ronnie comes into his own. And again, Mick’s voice is a wonder. #foreightongues

Covered In You is a completely insane thing. It really shouldn’t work - Mick cutting loose - but then that chorus. And no-one sings ‘unglued’ / ‘unscrewed’ like Jagger! Again, he’s almost sending himself up. Shout out to the bass player too. #foreigntongues

A great Keith ballad. And Jagger coming in in the chorus is a perfect blend. It makes me think of the vocal on ‘You Got The Silver’. #foreigntongues

In The Stars is a great track, and gives you a taste of how they approached the whole album - gnarly verses and smooth choruses, and just a hint of earlier albums - here it’s riff that sound like it belongs on ’Black & Blue’ just as you come out of the chorus. #foreigntongues
