I don’t really care about my 401(k) because i am not likely to ever retire, but that said, it is somewhat infuriating to watch the number go down because of our large adult president
TIAA statement showing last quarter my portfolio (in their target date fund as required by my employer) returned negative 0.2%

Quick shout-out to the guy who was talking to one of our patron services chatbots and calling it "shitbot" and constantly insulting it even after it asked not to, even though, in actual point, we don't use patron service chatbots and the stream of abuse was aimed at an actual person.

Once again republicans can call “blue cities” scum and the worth parts of the United States. And the media does literally nothing about it. It’s expected. Disgusting. LA is a vibrant city with so much happening here. It’s not perfect but it’s not deserving of this hateful ire

When the protection is excessively long, it serves primarily to enrich corporations who actually care about that time scale. I think e.g. histories of rural Saskatchewan townships until 1980 would benefit humanity far more if it entered the public domain in say 2030 rather than **2081**

yeah that’s the extra depressing part, the thought that if we actually managed to jail Trump for Jan 6, 2024 might have still gone the way it did on the basis of “Biden old and Trump did nothing wrong” deeply unpleasant scenario to consider

feels like at least part of what is happening is that a lot of people want politics to solve the "my life feels empty" problem and the populist right is directly appealing to them

and honestly, losing either statewide race in texas is something close to a strategic defeat. it completely upsets the political map going forward. it would be similar to trump winning new jersey in 2024 (where he came close).

LA is HOT. But does it have to be this hot? Did you know shade from a single tree can drop temps by 20° or more? Yet working-class neighborhoods like South LA, East LA, and the Valley get the least tree coverage and bear the brunt of extreme heat. Let's finally cool things down for everyone.

i suppose i’m not surprised that it is difficult to make people care about something that is low visibility — the vast majority of people have no idea who piker is — and low salience. i think we’re also going to find, for similar reasons, that the anti-trans messaging isn’t working either.
