For the second year in a row the Trinity fishing team boogied up to Nova Scotia to compete in the 18th Annual Intercollegiate Game Fish Seminar and Fishing Match.
Trinity seniors Ben Lobdell, Doug Earle, Dennis Werner, grads Bob Shaw and John (Bimbo) Cornyn, and coach-sponsor Wayne Witt made the trip.
Trinity, one of 13 teams entered, was one of the least formal.
The Tigers were competing against Yale, Princeton, and Harvard, among other schools.
"All the other schools were dressed in blazers with patches
on their breast pockers."We had on little caps with a purple "T" on the front," said Lobdell.
Despite their lack of silk ascots, monogrammed hankies, or
other extraneous trappings, the Tiger plugged on, vowing toboat a giant tuna for Duncan.

The first day of competition was clear, perfect for open sea
fishing. The team puttered out into the Bay of Fundi in their
little tugboat, anticipating a tremendous haul.Somehow they boated about 150 pounds of cod, haddock, and mackerel to push into second place by sundown.
The day's high point occured when Lobdell hooked a gargantuan fish. He struggled with it for 15 minutes, gripping the rod with all this strength, yelling commands to his teammates, with visions of a 500-pounder dancing in his head.Finally he brought the monster to the surface. It was a boulder covered with seaweed. Better luck next time, Ben baby.
