Turner recorded White Herons In Britain in the 1500s which were the same size and shape as Grey Herons, he also recorded that the white birds were rare and that they sometimes hybridised with Grey Herons which Conrad Gesner mentions as hybrids were challenging intellectually.

On 7/17, the Federal Register published a new rule to tighten the conditions on student visas. Now it goes to Congress for review and likely applications starting 9/15. My students are getting official emails and starting to ask questions, so wrote up some observations based on my research: 1/

This has been utterly destructive for post-92 HEIs, who have seen their cohorts poached, wrecking the opportunities for the talent of both staff + students to thrive at local institutions. The original language talked about caps - something constraining HE. It forgot it was really DISTRIBUTION 3/

I wish UCU would actually push some cases of fake redundancy to court. Our own plan is to leave 3 people to do all the teaching. Next year that would be 37.5 hours in class alone each - the full week, without doing any preparation, research, marking etc. That’s not a real redundancy situation.

Academic departments deserve to be saved, supported, resourced, allowed to grow even if they're not "best in the country," "first in the REF," "top-ranked," "at a Russell Group uni," or whatever other austerity-brained nonsense senior managers have been using to flimflam you out of solidarity

"All Signal, No Virtue." *** Trigger Warnings *** #HigherEd #edusky #edchat #AcademicSky journalofcontroversialideas.org/article/6/1/...
"Given that there never was any good evidence that trigger warnings work, why are they so ubiquitous? We argue that their adoption and use is best explained by a lack of prudence, which is explained by two other failures. On the one hand, the unwillingness to speak up is due to a failure of character. Pedagogues can read the evidence, but they are unwilling to speak up when doing so is costly and requires courage. On the other hand, educational institutions do not favour virtue because professional success is often at odds with the excellence that is internal to teaching....

Those advocating for or using trigger warnings are acting neither on the best available evidence nor any serious evidence. Tragically, it appears that they never sought these facts; the practice spread long before we had any reliable data." https://journalofcontroversialideas.org/article/6/1/314

These huge cars are vastly more dangerous, kill far more children, as they're higher at the front. They should have their own much lower speed limit in towns; and higher tax. Parking should be charged as for vans, they're larger than normal spaces. It's bizarre that they're treated as cars.
