A stretch of beach bordering the pacific ocean which appears grey beneath a solid grey sky. A small rock formation sits in the stillness of the water. The beach is full of logs blanketed with fallen rusty/yellow maple leaves. I don't know about you, but I see a dolphin in one of these logs, it's snout pointing skyward. A quiet day at the beach with barely a ripple on the water & no wind.

Today would’ve been my father’s 95th birthday. In search of a better life, he came to America with only $2.43 and a Korean-English dictionary. He had no friends or family here. Like many immigrants, he dreamt of the promise of what this country could offer. Each day I work to honor his memory.

We’re going to hear about how everyone loved Dolly, and that feels true. But it’s good to remember, and to her credit, that she was attacked for her AIDS activism, her vaccine advocacy, her LGBTQ+ support and even, more recently, for her reading initiatives. She ALWAYS stood firm when it mattered.
