Toxic people exist and can bring down a whole org Bullies exist and know exactly where the line is to not get caught But also, there are so many managers who would rather label people toxic, bullies, and underperforming than actually manage that employee, which is their damn job 🚩🚩🚩🚩

The thing is that the dysfunctional line of work, highly unusual and flawed internal corporate authorities and roles (again, see Toxic Founder problem), and ambitious people eventually results in middle managers, junior executives, and other similar figures overstepping their reach to get ahead

When I found out I was marked as non rehire-able by my last company, I wanted to angry cry-laugh. The same company that allowed me & my coworkers to work in a TOXIC crazy environment, didn’t take any real action in regards to sexual harassment, safety, or abuse of authority by managers…ok then

I swear managers are getting more toxic these days like you’ll be talking to a coworker WHILE working and doing your job then the managers tell you to the fuck shut up and only talk when it’s work related Like I feel that violates some freedom of speech rights

This is the kind of toxic "leader" who will be absolutely gobsmacked when he is left all alone holding the bag for his dumbass decisions. Workers fire bad managers by resignation, underperformance, and malicious compliance. The organization and its mission suffer.

Having gone through more than our fair share of managers who maybe also just had some bad luck (injuries, pivotal fouls, late fluke goals, etc), someone told me once "It's easier to fire 1 guy than 25 guys."

Honestly (and I hate saying this) I genuinely think that most founders need to fire their first 2-3 designers, product managers, marketers or CTOs before they realise that maybe (just maybe) the problem wasn't bad hiring but something else.

Every bad manager will fire at least a couple people under them to cover for their own poor performance. Recognizing when I'm working for one of these managers is probably the life skill I took the hardest knocks to earn.

As someone currently working in a bad grocery store, it feels like the store managers wanna make the people they cant fire (each online delivery person is more throughput and thus more profit) do everything they can in the store, and have as little as everyone else.

There are bad actors and toxic cultures but preventing lawsuits 9 out of 10 times means protecting employees from bad managers and no, you can't just get creative with this and fire someone you don't like. You cannot get around them. They'll tell you to grow up and deal with it. You have no clue.

No, but actually, this move makes perfect sense. You have to fire the manager if your team is bad even when the manager has nothing to do with it. AND you're only allowed to hire catchers for managers. Tom Lampkin was probably busy, so, here you go.

Unions are also really nice for helping to end discrimination. I used to have a union job pre-transition, and damn was it hard to fire people for bullshit, and a lot less discrimination. Bad managers disappear pretty quickly when the alternative is the whole work force walking out

perhaps, but it's a real, real bad look to pick up an option on a manager, fire him, hire a new manager, and immediately fire him. not sure I can recall a PBO being allowed to fire managers in back-to-back years, especially with so much money still owed to each

That's why executives and managers think generative AI is useful. Their emails to subordinates can be bad, misleading, and create inefficiencies for everyone who reports to them. Those negative outcomes don't lead to consequences, they'll just fire the people they lazily mismanaged and do it again.
