I use em-dashes, lists of three, and am a big fan of comparatives. Always have been. I write differently now than I did a decade ago, but that’s a shift in voice, maturity, and REFINEMENT of techniques I always used. Gatekeeping ourselves as writers does nothing but keep stories from being shared.

This started as a short story a long time ago. It wasn’t enough. I worried, along the way, that it might be too sad, too soft, too weird or too ambitious for its length. It is none of those things. It is something I needed to say. At some point, those words will find the people that need them.
