Very excited to see ARIA’s Accelerated Adaptation projects launched today! 🌳 I’m thrilled to be leading IMPULSA, asking a bold question: can we prepare young trees to defend themselves better against the threats they will face? Proud to be part of this incredible portfolio if project 👏

Protein synthesis is dynamically responsive to the environment, but how do cells ensure that their protein quality control mechanisms are appropriately scaled to changing translational demand? We address this question in our new study in @natcomms.nature.com www.nature.com/articles/s41...

TOR–NOT4 signalling couples translation to co-translational quality control in plants - Nature Communications
Here, Schwarze et al. reveal how plant cells match protein quality control to changing rates of protein production through a functional link between TOR kinase signalling and NOT4 E3 ubiquitin ligases

#PlantProteostasis is maintained by #ubiquitin E3 ligases, especially during #PlantImmunity. We discovered that HECT-type ligases unexpectedly amplify their regulatory reach over the proteome by governing the stabilities of both E3 ligases and their substrates, thereby regulating immune activation.

Plants use cell-surface and intracellular receptors that collaborate to detect pathogens🦠. We discovered that a key #ubiquitin recognition event recruits both receptor types into an unexpected dual receptor complex that boost the translation of defence proteins and establishes robust #PlantImmunity👇🏾

How does immunisation establish durable disease resistance in plants? Mobile immune signals released upon immunisation boost effectiveness of the defence hormone salicylic acid by ten times!😲 This results in higher immune gene expression and systemic acquired resistance against infection.
