“It’s not ALL men.” None of the 50+ men the Cornell rapists invited to come join them in raping a woman they’d drugged went to the authorities or tried to stop it. Not all men would rape an unconscious woman, but where are the men who’d try to stop it, or EVEN FUCKING OBJECT?

Disabled people make society uncomfortable. Left or right…. It doesn’t matter. People want to believe it can’t happen to them. That if they become disabled there will be a magic “fix”. We challenge their denial, so they deny us solidarity and support. That’s ableism.

FWIW, @delauro.house.gov and @hoyer.house.gov did send a letter to Susie Wiles. I'd prefer if they send a criminal referral to the Fraud Task Force. www.appropriations.senate.gov/imo/media/do...
We write to demand that you immediately take this ad off the air and appropriately
reprimand and discipline the Federal employees who knowingly violated Federal law in working
on and paying for this advertisement. In addition, we demand a full account and breakdown of all
Federal funds used to create and air this ad.
As you are aware, this is not the first time this administration has violated antipropaganda law2
. It is unconscionable that repeated violations of appropriations law continue to
occur during this Administration, and those violations underscore the failure of the Office of
Management and Budget to safeguard taxpayer funding and to consistently and faithfully ensure
compliance with the law. No taxpayer funding should be used to air this outrageous propaganda.

Key differences: Civic tech was/is bottom-up, pro-democracy and public service, people-oriented & incremental.

The GOP cut funding to the IRS because *audits work* and they fundamentally don't believe rich people should have to play by the rules.
Line chart titled "Revenue per audit," subtitled "In-person audits, 2010-2014." It plots average revenue and average cost per audit by taxpayer income percentile, poorer to richer, from the 0–5th percentile to the top 0.1%. Source: Boning et al. 2023, "A Welfare Analysis of Tax Audits Across the Income Distribution."

Across the bottom half of the income distribution, revenue and cost track closely, both around $3,000–$6,000 per audit. Above the median, revenue pulls ahead of cost: about $10,000 vs. $5,000 near the 90th percentile, and about $17,000 vs. $8,000 at the 95th–99th. At the top, revenue jumps to about $31,000 for the 99–99.9th percentile and about $90,000 for the top 0.1%.

A year ago, I wrote a thread about African American pet ownership in early C19 Boston. A brief update to report that Thomas Sampson, about whose dog I wrote, was sued in 1815 for buying that 'terier dog' and not paying for it. This is not Bancroft Prize-worthy stuff, but it makes me happy to know 🗃️
A writ of attachment, dated 14 December 1815, issued by Fortune Cummings over a debt of $13 owed him by Thomas Sampson for a 'Terier Dog' and 'one pair of Boots.' Sampson had paid Cummings $7.50 but still owed him $5.50. Not having sufficient personal or real estate to attach to satisfy bail, Sampson was imprisoned. In 1831, he still owned a dog: possibly the same one.
