I really wasn’t excited to see Buddy because there’s been so many children’s show gone wrong types of horror movies made in the past ten years and I’ve kind of hated all of them, but I was really surprised by this. So far my favorite new horror film of the year

There’s a bit with some oranges in the new Insidious movie that’s so goofy that it ends up being a better Scary Movie gag than anything that happened in the actual Scary Movie earlier this year

For years horror has been used to see how much AI bullshit audiences will swallow, always under the defense that it’s just a small production that can’t do no better, and still folks with large audiences are trying to push that this is just the natural and good progression of things

Great video that touches on something I also felt about much of country horror, that most of the people writing the mainstream versions of it have never lived in the country for longer than a tourist trap vacation. I grew up between a cow pasture and a corn field, and that's why I feared scarecrows.

I’m a bit late to it but I finished watching Hacks earlier today and I can’t get over how good the ending of that show was. Easily one of the best series finales I’ve ever seen.

One of my favourite video essayists takes on Larry Cohen’s trash horror/dark comedy mutant baby films? That’s my evening sorted. I had things to do, but I’ll clear my calendar for IPOS, and doubly so if Larry Cohen is involved.

Mother Mary is one of those weird movies that would have been a lot better if it just stayed a drama and never dipped into being a horror film. First quarter to half I was very into it, second it went supernatural it lost me in the same way that Longlegs did.

It was so egregious in LNWTD too because it was so obvious and distracting. It stuck out like a sore thumb in a film that was so desperately trying to feel like archive footage.

I wrote a short Dystopian / Existential Horror film that got shot a couple years ago by a remarkably talented crew and cast of human beings. It's now finished and due to be released. NO AI WAS USED. It's not needed. Human imagination and skills are all you need (and a LOT of luck and perseverance).

Two years ago people acted like I was crazy for saying that the low budget nature of horror was a potential breeding ground for the normalization of AI in film and now there’s shit like this.

The Elden Ring set photos made me dive back into the game again. Seeing lots of individually crafted characters on a large scale really tickles the same part of my brain as the Emerald City in Return to Oz. I didn’t think it would work at first, but I really can’t wait for it now.

I wish I loved The Mummy more. Some good in there, but ultimately a worse Evil Dead than his actual Evil Dead. It’s very cold in a way that makes the whole thing lack the human element that made that one great.

Reading Cabal makes me sad that a certain subgenre of horror where a weird town that’s not on any maps that lies hidden somewhere in the vastness of the unknown lands of the rural Americas has mostly stopped existing because of phones and the internet.

I haven’t gotten to play Requiem yet so I don’t know how they handle these sections in it, but Evil Within 2 clearly showed that you can go semi-open world and do interesting things with it with horror. It’s one of the best horror games ever made because it’s so different.

It’s funny how the people who are die hard supporting Scream right now are the same ones who are killing it long term. Treating it like it’s a religion or a big cult is off putting for people with normal minds that haven’t been poisoned by fandom. It comes across as deeply weird.

I rewatched Nightbreed again this week and I wish that Barker had made more films. It’s not even particularly what he was best at so I understand not focusing at it, but the back to back combo of Hellraiser and this have such a feeling to them that doesn’t exist in a lot of work.
