I'm always amused by the inevitable bewilderment that Duel Masters still exists when it slips into the western news and socials from time to time. That it has been almost completely memory-holed outside Asia is further proof that we in fact do not live in a monoculture. (also, sign the petition!)

Saw Primetime last night. I burst out in laughter when the credits rolled. I still don't know how to feel about it overall but the cinematography and lighting was fantastic. If Robert Pattinson hasn't gotten an oscar yet this could be his year. he was incredibly entertaining

Now that I'm playing Duel Masters, I'm starting to think that though all three are present in both games, MTG is overall a Johnny game and DM is overall a Timmy game.

Of course, while I believe for these reasons Johnny and Jenny rule Magic and Timmy and Tammy rule Duel Masters... None of that matters to Spike. Spike is eternal. As long as the result of a game has a winner, Spike will be there, self-expression and passion be damned lol

Though the route they get to it may differ, most decks in Duel Masters ultimately win by turning big badass triple-breaker dragons, demons, angels, beasts and mechs sideways. The omnipresent Shield Trigger was made specifically as an anime comeback mechanic. It is Magic simplified but supercharged.

Duel Masters on the other hand is a game where its core design is built to make big splashy plays, epic "anime moments", and the emotional high of such the main objective of play, and it's always willing to let you cheat mana and cut corners to get you there.

To me, MTG in 2026 from a community perspective is defined by the almost limitless ways people can assemble a pile of cards and enjoy the game, which is why I believe while Timmy, Tammy and Spike are always there to hang, Johnny and Jenny ultimately rule Magic.

At its core Magic: the Gathering is about self-expression. It is what allowed Commander to take over as the main casual way to play Magic, for Cube and other alternate ways to play like Dandan to also become popular, and for "Lantern Control" to be a onetime competitive deck.

I'm not sure if there are other donut-shaped standing stones closer to the real Wormelow Tump but Mên-an-Tol definitely *looks* like the artist's inspo for the card. Cornwall has a good amount of Arthurian lore (Tintagel, Dozmary Pool, etc) so it would fit from that angle I think
