There used to be a common homophobic line from parents of gay kids: “Being gay is fine, but it will make their life harder, so I’d rather they weren’t.” I THINK most of us understand now why this was homophobic. But the same line gets trotted out about #autistic people & no one blinks.

This is a really interesting piece that does a great job of showcasing the wild misconceptions and stereotypes that influence Irish views on immigration. (Stereotypes which - by the way - share some strong similarities with American conceptions of Irish immigrants in the 19th century.)
