A new tactical combat game for #msdos has been released! #StarCadre Team Command puts you in charge of a squad of elite operatives in the far future, conducting special missions on behalf of an interstellar civilisation. Get it from cyningstan.itch.io/star-cadre-t... #ibmpc #cga
A collage of screenshots of Star Cadre: Team Command against a background image. The background images shows the K-53 modified fighter craft in the foreground, that takes the away team on their missions, on a landing pad beside its hangar, with planting around, a city scape behind, mountains in the far distance. The screenshots are all in 4-colour CGA. They include: the title screen which is a 4-colour version of the background image, a mission taking place in an industrial complex, and the personnel screen where a new recruit is being added to the team.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Looks like hatariB is now available through the RetroArch core downloader! Might need to go to Online Updater > Update Core Info Files first? Anyway, my Atari ST emulator core adaptation is now ready for widespread use! Hopefully this makes exploring the ST library a little easier.

I just finished a patch for Tlon: A Misty Story: sonneveld.dev/tlon/ It's a 1999 point and click adventure game that's notorious for being incompletable due to a bug. There are save game hacks but this is a proper fix with correct exits and everything. Try it out and let me know how you go!

I'm thrilled to share news about an online #mediaarts exhibition I've curated with Helen Stuckey, "Revisiting Australian CD-ROM Art of the 1990s". With the support of @aarnet.edu.au and the #EAASI platform, it is now possible to access ten key Australian interactive artworks of the 1990s, online.
Screenshot of Megan Heyward's "I Am A Singer" CD-ROM artwork, emulated in EAASI. It shows a portrait of the main character, a woman who has amnesia.

I translated "Backstage" (1993) presented by "LIVECLUB", a mail-order subscription service for CDs and VHS tapes. The in-game goal is to win a radio contest, but the game also invites you to enter a real-life competition that closed in 1994. archive.org/details/back...
On a dark purple digitized wall background: "LIVECLUB" logo in red letters; "Presents"; the logo for "Backstage", a graffiti-like design with green lettering outlined in yellow; "Freeware - freely copyable".Screenshot of "Backstage": Pixel art. The inside of a house in cross section, with two rooms fully visible - the living room on the top floor and the kitchen on the bottom floor - and other rooms leading off from them, partially seen at the edges. The hero character is walking down a staircase that connects the two floors.Screenshot of "Backstage": Pixel art. The hero character is standing at the entrance to a building with large open double doors, facing into it. The sign above says "LIVECLUB". There are promotional displays of what look like books or magazines.Screenshot of "Backstage": Pixel art. A cross section of a subway train carriage with darkness surrounding it, except for a light passing by overhead. There are several passengers standing or sitting on the train. Saying it for maybe the 50th time: Do not accuse someone of using AI unless you have ABSOLUTELY AIRTIGHT proof, because if not, you're just adding to the paranoia and causing stress for hard-working artists. And yes, going onto social media and going 'Hrrm, I've no proof, but...' is an accusation.

a man with a bald top of head (black hair on sides) is sitting at a desk with a computer. there is also a joystick on the desk and also an antic magazine. there is an window with the blinds drawn, showing the night sky and a sliver of a moon. the image on his screen is the image i have just described, which means it's an image that repeats itself forever.

DOOM fully rendered in CSS. Every surface is a <div> that has a background image, with a clipping path with 3D transforms applied. Of course CSS does not have a movable camera, so we rotate and translate the scene around the user.

A little thread about animating walk cycles in adventure games: I've always tried to find the sweet spot between frame count and speed. You don't want to sacrifice character speed in favor of too smooth an animation. But I've always wanted to get my walk cycles to look natural. (🧵1/6)

My favorite artifact in the "you don't need AI to do art" discourse is, of course, screenwriter Dan O'Bannon's sketch of the facehugger to explain it to Giger.
A 2 panel sketch disgram of a 1 meter tall pod. in the second panel, an oval section pops off and a demonic little face with short tentacles flies out, crudely drawn.
