iGaming Ontario, the govt agency responsible for online gambling, fought this FOI. No wonder. "Among the grounds relied upon by iGaming Ontario to justify the lack of disclosure is that releasing the records could harm the province’s economic interests" #OnPoli 🎁 www.thestar.com/gift-redeem?...

iGaming Ontario commissioned the study in the months before the province launched its regulated online market for sports betting and casino games in April 2022. The agency had vowed to make the research public, saying it would establish a baseline for problem gambling in Ontario while informing how they tailored their responsible gambling program.
However, records obtained by the Star through freedom of information legislation reveal that iGaming executives were concerned when researchers reported problem gambling rates significantly higher than expected, and quietly decided the research would be kept confidential.
The internal records show the agency was worried the findings would still be leaked, and brainstormed damage control at a meeting where they discussed a “gag order” and other strategies to minimize the chances the researchers may “bad mouth” iGaming Ontario.

In Quebec City, an 11 year old boy was killed while he was on his bike earlier this year. A ceremony set for this weekend to install a ghost bike was cancelled because the boy's family has been inundated with hateful messages because ... speed bumps have been installed.

During the Cabbagetown daycare wars, where a daycare didn't "fit the historic character/use" etc (nor did a playground shade structure) I wrote that all cars parked along the street were also not inline with heritage character so parking should be eliminated. No no no...not that. Not that.

In 2022 in Ontario a 19 yr old woman died in part because she had to wait for a gynecologist to do a very necessary pelvic exam. By the time it finally happened she was in the ICU with severe sepsis. We (generalists) are all trained to do pelvic exams! There is no fucking excuse.
