🧪 This month in #SciArt history: Happy birthday to Santiago Ramón y Cajal! 🎂🧠 The father of #neuroscience & a gifted artist, Cajal revealed the brain is made of neurons — not a network — earning a Nobel in 1906. His stunning neuron drawings inspired the watercolour painting here 🎨 #SciComm
A Purkinje neuron from the human cerebellum, captured in stunning detail by Cajal, with its numerous and intricate dendritic branches - Santiago Ramon y Cajal ca 1900 (Cajal Institute, CSIC, Madrid). ‘Net Neurality’, one of my earliest science-art paintings, inspired by Cajal’s drawings. The title is a wordplay on net neutrality — the idea that internet providers should treat all data equally — and reflects how both the internet and the brain form intricate, decentralized networks of information flow.
