Good morning! I suppose I've continued last week's theme into this week's #PoemsAbout #NeverForget Thank you once again @alanparry83.bsky.social and @brokenspinearts.bsky.social for this forum. I will be back in a bit to read--depending on how severe the storms are coming our way!
Poem
At the Borderline of Intangible

You can’t see the specks of stardust,
that scattered light beyond our vision,
infrareds, ultraviolets—
the blackholes that zip around us, drift
like our ghosts--

shadows almost seen.

You nearly forgot
the cold touch that brushed your cheek
with thoughts from the past,
a dream voice that called your name,

this time you woke,
this time you remembered

how the rain fell, a virga of possibility,
a deluge of inevitability
carrying flecks of all of us,
of everything,

the light.

For this week's #PoemsAbout #NeverForget an old poem in memory of my Dad, but new to here, and fitting, I hope. With thanks to @alanparry83.bsky.social @brokenspinearts.bsky.social and all those taking part. Will catch up with others later.

For #PoemsAbout #NeverForget here is a piece called Summer Fade, a rework of an old poem of mine. Looking forward to reading others work throughout the day. Thanks to @alanparry83.bsky.social @brokenspinearts.bsky.social for cultivating this community of writers 🙏
Summer Fade

I see the underskin twine
barely holding your life together,
cherry and plum threads
unraveling in midsummer twilight.

I tell myself it’s just the shade.

A lie I can live with
a lie to make you live - longer -
than the moulding bouquet
existing on the windowsill,
the lead crystal heavy with death
of mulching carnations and tulip stems.
I don’t know why no-one has replaced them—
but I do really.

When your head turns to face me
sometimes there’s a glint of silver
recognition in your moonswell eyes—
and the slightest cup of a smile held
on your saltstubble lips,
lasting no longer than a heartbeat.

When you retreat into the security
of the peppermint blanket,
dry tears scold my throat
while sterile walls, return my stare
unable to offer the answers
I hope for.

#poemsabout #neverforget Fantastic theme with a brilliant multiplicity of responses @brokenspinearts.bsky.social @alanparry83.bsky.social
barter

we used to exchange rhubarb, for advice
a barter that left both feeling warmer

i was jealous of his Russian hat collection
he of my fluency in matters of the heart

healthcare titbits and NHS navigation
for freshly dug carrots, leeks, the odd spud

it seemed to me Fred had life sorted
my own was falling apart, I didn’t let on

his wife was in and out of hospital
until one day, she wasn’t any more

a bag of onions left on my doorstep
the exchange one-sided and raw.

#PoemsAbout #NeverForget Something on the stove, not yet cooked. But I must re-share this, 1st published @asylummagazine.bsky.social, about my Mum's Alzheimer's, when, like Persephone, she was still in and out of the world rather than gone away💔🙏 @brokenspinearts.bsky.social @alanparry83.bsky.social
Persephone says

Persephone says that she dreams of the snow’s soft falling.
She sits in the shade all alone and she thinks
that there’s nothing worth learning, and no-one worth calling.

Persephone says she no longer remembers her reasons
for returning. Her pomegranate days seem palely out of synch
with the pull and the yearning of the seasons.

Persephone says she no longer believes in the meaning
of those small things that used to sustain her. Most nights, she drinks.
The woodlands are burning. She wearies of her long inbetweening.

For @brokenspinearts.bsky.social #poemsabout #neverforget a poem about my grandmother. I wrote this a while back but edited it a bit for today as short on time this week. Hope it works ok. @alanparry83.bsky.social Alt included. #poetsonbluesky #prompt #poetry #poems

Flask

A Tenby, sand-crust afternoon
one souvenir mug,
because I thought Tenby was 'Denby.'
We laughed, bathed our toes.
The ebb of the still water of time lay upon us.

There's only approximately
one fettered mug of her left
one place left to visit,
I can almost taste her scones.
I'll never make it to Ardnamurchan.

One cup of granny by the shore.
she'd have spat out her tea at that,
"one lump or two?" She'd have squealed.

Memorial

You are not gone.
You’ve become
the silence just after birdsong,
the light that clings to the edge of leaves.

I walk where we once stood
and time does not behave—
it folds, it flickers,
it forgets to move forward.

Your name
lives in the spaces between mine.
In breath. In shadow.
In the ache that follows beauty.

fingers tuck forget-
me-nots in my tied tresses

His scent was sweet #Vellichor infused And she couldn’t get enough; His spine was the binding Of a hundred days, lost at sea His lips still salted with mystery And a lingering thrill That her teeth itched To bite into And she could read all his life From the parchment Fluttering in his gaze #vss365

After the exorcism, she didn’t vanish No blaze, no cry—only quiet She lingered, soot-stained and hollow, fingers ghosting where the blaze had carved its name in bone Yet her heart—defiant, unbeholden—kept beating Not for penance, nor mercy, nor grace, but for the chance to begin again #BlueSkyRelay

When we suppress who we truly are, our minds sense the disconnect and register it as a threat. That’s why people who pretend often feel drained; it takes far more energy to be someone we’re not than to simply be real. Remember, you don’t need to perform for the world. Just be.

For #PoemsAbout #Green here is my piece titled Eostre. Dont think I’ve shared this for previous prompts. @alanparry83.bsky.social @brokenspinearts.bsky.social pleased to be part of this ever growing community 🙏 🌿🌱🌳
Ēostre: A Day an The Life
She rises to a skylark’s dawn,
in a velvetine robe of shallow mist,
delicate feet floating to ground.

Ringlets of auburn Saxon hair
topple like kingdoms until she pins a braided crown with blackthorn and gorse.

A thistly smile curls her lips,
resentment spreading like nettles to her eyes,
at memories of her goddesshood and heritage enslaved by Rome, then bastardised by chocolate merchants,

but still she yearns to comfort,
and save the earth from the season’s sickness,
man has sown —
she is a mother after all.

Slipping on straw-gold sandals
she transforms to hare;
sprint-leaping from tree to meadow
coaxing the leaffirst from its overslumber,
unseen apart from the glimmertouch of breeze
rustling outreaching spindled fingers,
gently sharing her alms.

At the fall into night, she climbs to a human form,
staring aghast at the altar of the modern world,
wondering if it is time to let go.

And then she hears a mistle thrush.

For today's #poemsabout #green with @brokenspinearts.bsky.social, a brutally short poem for a friend whose life was cut brutally short. Had we not known each other as kids, I'd probably still not know about granny-pop-out-of-beds ...
Granny-pop-out-of-beds

Twists of milk on the coiling green –
winding, all the way back to you.
You showed me how to goose grannies.
Like you, this will never grow old.Granny-pop-out-of-beds – otherwise known as hedge bindwind.
