I know that when I am entering an intensifying competition and have damned near unlimited resources, the first thing I do is make substantial cuts to my team. I am not optimistic about where this leads for Them or for Us.

Fundamentally, teaching humans is activity that requires high amounts of human labor per student and that is a real problem for people who are annoyed at the concept of paying for human labor.

The worst Ebola outbreak in the world is ongoing in the DRC and you’re not being informed about it in part because the reason it is spiralling is US politics. At least one person who was suffering from the disease crossed into Uganda by road and then flew from Kampala to Nairobi where he died.

boy Trump fucked the American auto industry. first he yanks their EV subsidies, leading them to slash production and write off tens of billions in investment, then he jacks up the price of oil by 50%, leading to skyrocketing EV demand going almost entirely to China bc GM et al left the market

The state has been trying to work in good faith with CMS but the likely purpose of withholding federal #Medicaid funding from MN was always to financially squeeze a politically disfavored state. 54.3% of all federal $ going to MN comes from Medicaid.

It's not about placing themselves at the top. They're already at the top. It's about putting us more firmly under control. Deskilled, devalued, hyper-surveilled, desperate. That vision of fascism won't be defeated in the next two elections. It's a long fight.

A rogue executive going after the citizenship and thus eligibility of a duly elected member of Congress, an attempt to usurp the House's fundamental constitutional power to decide who its own members are, is dangerous in a way that exceeds even the possibility of bogus trumped up criminal charges.

In a story on political violence (where they depict the targets as equally democratic and republican), the @nytimes.com gives a sympathetic ear to a member of Congress who was part of January 6.
Representative Derrick Van Orden, a Republican from Wisconsin seeking re-election next month, attended the “Stop the Steal” rally on Jan. 6, 2021, in support of President Trump’s false claim that he had won the 2020 election. Mr. Van Orden was outside the U.S. Capitol that day when a mob attacked it, though he has denied entering the building. He was elected to Congress in 2022That’s when the threats began.

“I was a Navy SEAL for over 22 years,” Mr. Van Orden said in an interview with The Times. “I hunted terrorists around the world a lot and was very successful at that. Never had a single threat to my family. Ever.”

Ammon Bundy has an open warrant for his arrest in Idaho. The Iron County Sheriff’s Office did not respond to a request for comment from The Tribune about why he was taken into custody by their deputies but allowed to go free.
sltrib.com
Ammon Bundy says he has an ‘inalienable right’ to drive without registration. The Utah authorities who arrested him disagree.
Bundy does not dispute the sheriff deputy’s account of the traffic stop. What he does dispute is the requirement that he register the car: “I said, ‘Well, I do have a right to travel. It doesn’t come from you. It comes from God.'"

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.
