I've been talking a lot about the disastrous recent loss of American institutional capacity regarding climate science. But today, I'd like to announce something we've been working on, quietly, in the meantime to offer a lifeline to some of those affected. [Thread]

Adapted my intro to remote sensing lecture for preschool yesterday. Kids intuitively understood how of course a satellite could sense infrared and light is a wave and why vegetation is red in a false color composite! Blown away by 4yo intelligence and wonder!

Development in the UCAR lawsuit: the defense filed their response to the allegations last week. Essentially, their argument is that because NSF has not ordered NCAR broken up, just that they *intend* to break up NCAR, an injunction is not appropriate at this time.

CU Boulder, along with Wyoming and Oklahoma, submitted a joint proposal to NSF to essentially keep NCAR intact and replace UCAR, Brooke Stephenson at the Boulder Reporting Lab reports.

A worldmap of the spatial distribution of extracted flood events in the Groundsource dataset. The map displays the total number of flood events extracted by the LLM-based pipeline aggregated per grid cell. The data are visualized using a Robinson projection, with event counts represented by a logarithmic color scale.
