Background: Cumulative rainfall in the upper Pecatonica River basin through mid to late September:
Plot of cumulative rainfall in inches at three Wisconet stations. Althree show a steep rise on Sept 18-19, with a little more gradual increase to between 4 and 6 inches total by Sept 21. Curves are then flat until yesterday and today.

On the flip side of the rain is the drought. We've seen a slight expansion in Exceptional Drought on this week's Drought Monitor, and a broader expansion of extreme drought across northern Wisconsin.

Wet morning in southern Wisconsin, with many of our stations reporting more than an inch of rain since midnight. If you've got your wipers on - make sure you've got your headlights on! It'll help other drivers see you.

We'd certainly like to see more rain than this across northern Wisconsin, but we'll take every drop we can get to try and alleviate some of the drought conditions. New drought monitor comes out tomorrow morning.

Here comes the rain again...but it's once again missing the extreme and exceptional drought in northern Wisconsin. Expansion of the extreme and exceptional drought areas seems likely.

Stop us if you‘ve heard this one before: We’re dealing with dense fog this morning across northern and northwestern Wisconsin. We’re in the middle of Wisconsin fog season, so pay attention to where the main foggy areas are - because they’ll likely be like that for the next couple months.

It’s a tale of two halves of the state. The west side is mild, the east side is cool. Still dealing with a little fog in the eastern half of Wisconsin, so keep that in mind as you’re out and about this morning.

Break out the flannel…we’ve got low-40s all the way to the Cheddar Curtain. And with near 100% relative humidity and calm winds this morning, there may be patchy areas of fog, so take it easy on the roads if you’re headed out to the apple orchard for some fresh cider donuts.

We’ve picked up quite a bit of rain in southern Wisconsin in the last 24 hours, with Soldiers Grove leading the way at more than 4“ so far. Heavy rain events also help us identify rain gauges that might be having some issues - like Porter, which appears to have a clog.

Parts of southern Wisconsin could see 2-3 inches of rain this week, with some areas seeing more rain than they've seen in the past month! Unfortunately for the extreme drought area, the rain totals are looking lower, with up to an inch possible. We'll take what we can get.
