gosh her original essay was so transformative for how i think about my own class privilege, and this followup feels like it mirrors the longer arc of how we're understanding race and class on the left. "in a nation of racism and riches, there is no absolution here."

i find all the effective altruism is a sex cult stuff offensive mainly because it implies that i've been hanging out with a bunch of sex cultists for years and no one thought to invite me to the cult

I really want people to think more like organizers. I'm seeing endless debate, and more than a little conspiracy theorizing, about the motivations behind the big companies' warnings about the danger of AI. And almost no discussion about how we seize this moment to demand the policies we want.

A very uncomfortable thing to acknowledge is that policymakers need to either force or entice data centers to connect to the grid, and also that data centers can really fuck up the grid. There are not easy answers here, but there are answers, and I'm proud to be at an org that is working on them.

This mode of white male identity politics often gets conflated with class politics. It happens because signifiers of working-class identity are inherently ambiguous, and underspecified populist discursive categories like "the people" and the "establishment" strategically enable this conflation.

if you want leftist votes, then you have to give concessions to leftist voters. it's really that simple.
Flow chart
Do dems need the votes of leftists to win elections?

If yes they have to offer polciy concessions

If no its not leftists fault when dems lose

i know it's fun to dunk on third way on here but how can you be third way and be mad at people who are proposing a third way (grist.org/politics/gre...)
screenshot from the linked Grist article: But Emily Becker, director of communications for the climate and energy program at the center-left think tank Third Way, described the agenda as “Biden on steroids,” warning that it may not resonate as broadly as its proponents hope. “It lacks the imagination of the Green New Deal, and it lacks the pragmatism of the Inflation Reduction Act,” she said. “They find themselves stranded between, ‘OK, do we tell policymakers how to make something durable that works and that has political fortitude? Or do we paint the picture of the world we wish to build?’” That middle ground makes her think the agenda won’t catch on. She also thinks using a populist framing to convince the public to care about climate is unnecessary. “You are lucky to be a clean energy advocate in this moment, because clean energy is affordable energy,” Becker said. “So talk to them about addressing energy affordability and how clean energy can satisfy that.”

The bottom half shows densely packed neighborhoods with, many of which appear to have sustained damage from aistrikes, with some small patches of trees. Google Maps pins indicate that this area contains 2 restaurants and 3 mosques.Satellite image of two blended photos of northern Gaza. feels notable because the center-left Dem so often whines about it when they lose to a progressive, I appreciate that Malinowski despite the conditions of the race is throwing support behind Mejia in the same way progressives who lose are without fail expected to fall in line behind a centrist
