It’s been a grey day in the Perth Hills today, which brought us some much needed rain after a very dry spring so far this year 🌧️ These flowers did their best to add a dash of sunshine yellow to the day though 💛 #ozflora #wildoz #nativeplants #inaturalist #bloomscrolling 🌿

October 8th is World Octopus Day! Octopuses are a subject I regularly return to. Enjoy these octopus linocuts, woodcut and screen print. 🧪🐡🐙 This is my hand-carved and hand-pulled Lino block print of a charming Grimpoteuthis octopus, one of a genus of pelagic cirrate (finned) octopods
As described this is my hand-carved and hand-pulled Lino block print of a charming Grimpoteuthis octopus, one of a genus of pelagic cirrate (finned) octopods known as the dumbo octopuses. The water looks black and the octopus has its brown tentacles curled in to its indigo body with reddish fins. Each print is 9.25” by 12.5” on delicate Japanese washi paper.

It’s a sunny day today and our friend reappeared! In this video you can see why they’re called bluetongues - and at the end as its tail slides out of view, you can also see why people often mistake them for tiger snakes if they only get a glimpse of them in the undergrowth

This could explain how they're not quite as precise in their touchdowns as other birds of prey. They do seem to crash land in trees. I'd always rationalised it as a bit of shock and awe, but they don't really need that for stick insects. (For frogs & geckoes maybe.)

13 Monsters Good And True I think there are so many genuine monsters in the world that I am consoling myself by drawing little monsters who are good.
Drawing of 13 little 'monsters', rather cute little critters who wouldn't harm a fly, in fact they'd probably give it a bowl of milk and a tiny bed for the night.

It's been a good year for Aust's wonderful Bogong Moth! Annual migration from their autumn/winter feeding grounds to their cooler summer aestivation sites is in full swing. Although officially a night-flying moth, ATM, they're very active during the day. These are feeding on Coastal Tea-tree.

So I got out the tape measure to get an idea of how long this Brown Tree Snake was. (And, hopefully, still is.) About 1.8 m (5' 10"), which is a good size for this species. Probably explains why I haven't seen many geckos around lately. bsky.app/profile/snai...

After patrolling the entire carport, the noodle has headed off to resume its circumnavigation of the house. Hopefully it notices the trees and shrubs along the fenceline and finds a more productive location to spend its time.
Tail end of the snake disappearing into the hubcab of a car in a way that made me wonder whether the rest of the snake was climbing up into the vehicle's innards.Snake emerging from the wheel on the opposite side. Not audible: my sigh of relief.

I casually glanced out of the window to see this friendly noodle staring back. The snake has now sought shelter in the carport where I hope it doesn't end up in the engine well. Brown Tree Snake (Boiga irregularis), Atherton Tablelands, Far North Queensland.
Photo taken through flyscreen on a window. A large Brown Tree Snake or Night Tiger (Boiga irregularis) peering at me. The snake is redddish brown with wide vertical bands of darker brow, It is draped over a potted plant in the garden. The plant is against a wall of dark blue corrugated iron. Brown Tree Snake crawling through some more potted plants inside the carport this time. That ol' snake is still crawling through the plants. It knows I'm there with the phone, so freezes every now and then. But it is determined to do the circuit.A bit of the snake to show the gorgeous markings, more a chequerboard than stripes. The background colour is mid-brown fading to dark orange on the sides and belly, wth darker brown markings.

Illustration of a cassowary head and upper neck from the 1900 monograph "A monograph of the genus Casuarius." The bird features a prominent dark brown casque on its head, bright blue skin with textured scales covering its neck, and a striking red wattle hanging below. Its sharp, brown eye and pointed beak are detailed, showing the bird's distinctive facial features. The illustration highlights the cassowary's unique casque shape, colorful skin, and feathered body, providing a clear, scientific depiction of Casuarius picticollis hecki. The background is a plain light beige, emphasizing the bird's vivid colors and structure.
