I have a soft spot for any episode that feels like Gene Roddenberry's cousin just closed a community theater production of "Antony & Cleopatra" and called him up like
"I'm downstairs right now with five boxes of costumes in the trunk of my car can you take them off my hands"

Day 5 of the strike at my place of work, the University of Edinburgh. Great solidarity between students and staff in the face of unnecessary mass layoffs while management sits on huge amounts of capital and a surplus.

I wish every one of the people stoking hatred against the disabled could experience what it's like to be told your child will never live independently. I wish I could unfold that feeling like a heavy blanket and lay it on their shoulders, let them carry it for a few years.

My teen creative writing group at the Central Library started up for the new term yesterday, and they're doing a group project - an audio drama. The idea they've come up with is SO GOOD, I can't wait to see how it comes together. I'm so lucky to get a front row seat to their creativity.

Lovely things: wet dandelions, brambles, the sound of rain on an umbrella, herons, empty jam jars, public fountains, tea spoons, kind people, the colour of three day old bruises, torn paper edges, shortbread, wrought iron, a new cardigan, thunderstorms.

We gotta push back on the idea that a gender identity is a thing some queers say they have, and that cis people don't have. We can't know ourselves worse because Hobbyless Janet doesn't like the idea of a trans woman sharing the same air she does.

A ''new thing''.
4 frame strip. An older man tells Stephie: kids being trans is a new thing! We didn;t have that 30 years ago. Theyre only doing it to be trendy, that;s why there;s an 80% desistance rate. Stephie puts her hand next to her face and goes : psst. That 80% rate comes from disgraces homophobic doctor K Zucker's book about his unethical treatments of trans and gender non-conforming kids, ''gender identity disorder and psychosexual problems in children and adolescents.'' it came out 30 years ago.

It's nonbinary awareness week! Here's a poem I wrote about the nonbinary Loch Ness Monster, who exists whether you believe or not 🥰
Nessie

The Loch Ness Monster isn’t a boy
or a girl.

Nessie doesn’t have much use for words like that.

Nessie’s much too busy scaring fishermen
and posing for blurry photos that nobody will believe in.

Nessie knows who Nessie is
and isn’t.

Nessie knows where the silverest fish swim
and how to shimmy
through silt like a conger.

Nessie knows what it’s like to be the only one.

You don’t need to believe in Nessie.
Your belief doesn’t change who Nessie is.

Under the weight of the water, under the shadow of the hills
Nessie has always existed.

Not a boy or a girl. But real.

Pride was very lovely this year! Robin came along for the first time and enjoyed himself immensely. After listening to the wonderful speech at the start, he spent the rest of the parade happily muttering to himself "everyone loves me!" and waving at passers by.

Generative AI will be banned in Norwegian primary schools starting next year 🔥 The Labour government justified the decision by citing a steady decline in academic achievement and fears that AI will replace learning rather than support it.

The lads from Thomas House have it right: With AI, there is no excuse, there is no ethical use.
A poster from Thomas House, a pub in Dublin, saying that they do not accept AI generated posters or fliers.

“So for the future (literally) we’re not accepting AI posters or flyers for the pub.

We’re right best to Ireland’s biggest Art College, lads. It’s not a good look.

We understand bands can be skint but relying on some Earth killing app from some paedo island billionaire is not the way. We got by without it and we’ll get by again.

If you’re stuck we’ll help.
Yes it has been used here before but consider it the start of the end of it.

Thanks, Humans.”
