Did you know that producing one pound of beef is 25-50x worse for climate change than burning a pound of coal? In fact, it’s one of the most polluting things we can consume. And grass-fed beef is usually *even worse* — thanks to its much higher land use and methane emissions.
Bar chart showing greenhouse gas emissions for different food items. Beef is the worst, by far.

Floating U.S. dollar bills above a stylized image of the United States Capitol building, with bold red vertical bars in the background. Text on the image reads, "How do we fix climate policy?"The image is an informational graphic titled "Drawdown Insights." It has a red section labeled "Follow the Science," which lists "The Problem" as short-term policy goals versus a comprehensive long-term view of science. "The Solution" suggests removing CO₂ tunnel vision by addressing other greenhouse gases, focusing on impactful short-term solutions, and implementing structural changes like public transportation and electric vehicles. The image is a flyer titled "Pave the Way" by Drawdown Insights. It highlights a problem, stating that policymakers are too reliant on individuals and businesses to take the lead. The solutions proposed include improving intergovernmental coordination, cutting red tape, redirecting subsidies away from polluting industries toward climate solutions, and using public funds to pave the way for action. The text features a red banner and icons of an alarm and a check mark.Engage the Public graphic from Drawdown Insights. The image highlights a problem and a solution. Problem: "Climate solutions fail when the community is not involved in a meaningful way." Solution: "Communities often have legitimate concerns about land use, systems transformation, and new technologies coming to their community, all of which could mean a loss of income, culture, history, and anxiety about who will truly benefit. Proactively co-designing solutions avoids frustrations down the road."
