David Levinson takes us on a quick detour to events in the Persian Gulf before looking at the latest issue of If. A fair few of the #ScienceFiction stories in this one tackle themes to do with colonization, so the detour is warranted. Interesting, too. galacticjourney.org/october-2-19...
The cover illustration for If: Worlds of Science Fiction, December 1971 edition. A giant curved structure in an approximately triangular shape with many round windows sits atop a spherical base on a rocky cliff. Both the bottom of the triangular portion and the spherical base are cracked in the way of old marble or granite. The structure, like the sky behind it, is gold. To the right of the structure, a partial eclipse of the sun hangs in the sky. Several people are standing around the structure. Closer to us, a man in a loincloth with long hair stands atop a rocky outcrop, facing away from the viewer and reaching with his arms toward the sun.
