In a huge blow to my photography career, the SD card in my toy camera corrupted yesterday morning, so I lost every photo from Dragon Con on Saturday. I hadn’t printed any for myself because I was running low on sticker paper and wanted to make sure I could keep giving them away all weekend.

Artist friends: during my many-hour drive home from Gen Con, I came up with an art-gift that I'm going to work on and give to you when next we see each other at Dragon Con (might be too soon), IX, or Gen Con. This post is my public declaration of intent.

I saw this painting leaning against a building in Manhattan in 2019. Every time I see it in my camera roll when I’m searching for “painting”, I regret not taking it.
A painting of a blue goblin with red eyes, fangs, floppy ears, and four fingers on each hand. It appears to be a beach scene with palm trees, a bright sun, and mountains in the background. The painting is leaning against a stone building.

Everybody loves Da Pope
dark mustache wearing sunglasses along with the formal white and gold garb of the pope. The white cape has medallions on either lapel showing red 6-pointed stars as seen on the Chicago flag, and two sky blue bars wrap around the cape horizontally, also in reference to the flag. His belt/sash is also decorated with blue bars. The space inside his mitre is filled with oversized Chicago hot dog toppings (tomato, sport peppers, green relish, a pickle) and some yellow mustard is running down the front of the hat which also bears the Chicago municipal device, a Y in a circle, representing the Chicago River. In his left hand he’s holding a gold staff topped by a gilded Italian beef sandwich with a little halo and wings and he’s making a blessing gesture with his right hand. He's framed by a gothic arched window that contains a stained glass rendition of down Chicago looking past the top of the Sears Tower out toward the green lake and blue sky. At the bottom of all this is a red banner with large blackletter text that says 'Da • Pope' separated by a gold 6-pointed star, and below that in smaller blackletter text reads 'Chicago-style with Everything'.

Pueraria suffocata, known as smotherwort, is the fastest-growing species of plant. This vine of the kudzu family can, under ideal conditions, spread 10 meters per day. People living in areas where this species is invasive are advised to close their windows at night to avoid accidental asphyxiation.
A picture of a bedroom in the morning. A large mass of vines has entered through the open window and covers most of the bed and wall. On the bed, the plant betrays the shape of a person beneath, choked in their sleep as they lied in a fetal position. Small, purple flowers bloom around them.

Excited to reveal this project I did for SEND HELP, directed by Sam Raimi and starring Rachel McAdams & Dylan O’Brien, now in theaters! My illustration was painted traditionally in watercolor. Many thanks to @20thcenturystudios.bsky.social and @posterposse.bsky.social for this opportunity!
Watercolor poster illustration that reads “SEND HELP, Now Playing.” The art shows a gigantic tearful eye looming over a stormy ocean. The tears merge with the waves of the ocean. In the reflection of the eye is a leaping female figure holding a spear.

Every December my coworkers and I do a $0 white elephant - homemade or found objects only. This year I made this little guy, a DIY Labubu my husband named “Uncle Bubu,” along with a certificate of questionable authenticity. #labubu #diy #plush #whiteelephant
A plush monstrosity that resembles a Labubu toy. It has the body and head of a stuffed bear with matted white fur that looks wooly. It has Barbie hands and feet and a sleepy-looking face made out of clay with sharp teeth. It wears a gold chain around its neck.A plush monstrosity that resembles a Labubu toy. A digital illustration of a blond man with an out of date haircut and a mustache wearing a gray sweatshirt with blue and red stripes at the shoulder. He's talking into the handset of a Garfield-shaped telephone, the body of which sits on a small table next to him. The overall effect of the rendering is cruddy and grimy and weird. Cruddy red lettering that maybe looks like it was done with a paint roller to the right of the frame reads 'Maybe it will happen today'.

(If you'd like to attempt to make some bit of sense of this one try searching for 'I have to reform the ninja empire' and follow the rabbit down the hole.)

Another little bit of inspiration I made for you
A digital illustration on a mottled blue gray textured paper background. A human skull rendered in textured black with the contours rendered in the poster color. The top of the skull’s cranium is missing and dark red flames are rising out of it. A black banner loops around the skull on the left, right, and below. Dangling from the bottom of the banner is a sprig of holly with black leaves and red berries. Lettering on the banner reads ‘Holidays are hard but what ain’t’.

Now is the time of Yule and Monsters
A digital illustration in the form of a multi-color relief print. At center is Gryla, Iceland's Troll Witch who stalks the land around the yule snatching misbehaving children and turning them into stew. She has blue skin, a craggy hag face with horns, fangs, and pointed ears framed by long, white hair in two big braids. She's wearing a traditional-ish looking dress and pinafore type thing under a big overcoat. In one hand she's holding a gnarled walking stick, and the other, reaching out toward the viewer is on the back of her pet Jólakötturinn, the Yule Cat. He's a huge, fluffy, black cat, getting ready to pounce with his mouth open and one massive paw swiping out. His job is to eat children who are found without new clothes before Christmas. The point of focus of these two monsters, is two terrified, screaming children wearing tattered winter clothing in the lower right of frame. The ground all around is covered in snow, and the background inside a rough-cut framing shape is a spooky forest under a night sky with crescent moon, stars, and swirls of howling wind. Part of the top of the frame widens out into a red banner reading 'Gryla & Jólakötturinn'. Now get out there and try not to get eaten.
