Khashoggi's assassination was in hindsight one of the highly salient norm-shattering moments of impunity that helped recalibrate contemporary expectations for outrageous crimes: if you're rich & powerful enough, in the words of the President of the United States, "they just let you do it"

What a little snowflake this Tom Barrett is. The "vandalism" referenced here is literally sidewalk chalk from a protest. The "political stunt" was a food drive done while Barrett was cutting SNAP benefits. lansingcitypulse.com/rep-tom-barr...
That includes my opponent, who started organizing political protests outside my office before I’d even hired our full staff. It was clear William Lawrence had an agenda; what wasn’t as obvious was that his plan was to run for Congress. While he and his activist allies harassed my first hires, vandalized my office, staged political stunts and hurled accusations, I was focused on doing the job I was elected to do.

And so it continues... Our economic debates seem utterly disconnected from the reality. That reality: This is an economy mostly creating healthcare jobs, and it does so month after month, and everything else is just noise.
Line chart titled "Effectively all of the net job creation has been in healthcare and social assistance, and jobs are shrinking in the rest of the economy" showing change in non-farm payrolls since January 2025 through September 2026. Healthcare and social assistance added 998,000 jobs with consistent growth throughout the period, while the rest of the economy lost 222,000 jobs, meaning all net job creation came from healthcare. The rest of the economy showed particular weakness from May through August 2025 when losses reached 218,000 jobs. This striking divergence reveals an unusual concentration where one sector's growth of roughly 48,000 jobs per month has offset persistent contraction across all other industries combined.

The ICC prosecutors' charging decision is driven by ICC precedent, particularly the al-Bashir case, in which the tribunal imposed a very high evidentiary standard on genocide claims, requiring specific and unequivocal proof of intent. So this analysis is incorrect in my view.
