Fuck ChatGPT flyers. The future is broadsheets.
A crowded broadsheet with way too many fonts. It says:
Forget ChatGPT Flyers
Say it with
Broadsheets
Unlimited fonts
Stretch them
Or cram a really long sentence into one line for no good reason
No whitespace
Mix capital and lowercase
Pointing hands
(They're called manicules!)
Don't be left behind
Broadsheets are the future

Friendly reminder/PSA approaching spooky food season: activated charcoal has gotten popular as a black dye and interferes with a TON of medications. The worst documented interaction is with mycophenolate, an anti-rejection med many transplant patients (like me) take. But there are many dozens more.

Also, some of us _cannot_ get the MMR vaccine because of immunosuppression. Our only protection is from the people around us getting vaccinated.

Really disheartening to see so many Democrats loudly declaring their intention to lose in the midterms. (Obviously even worse to be seeing it from under this bus.)

I think I’ve reached the transition milestone where being gawked at by men on the street is _just_ gross, without that weird little bit of complicated gender affirmation problematically layered on top.

Thank you to everyone who came out for last Sunday's LAGECC Dad Rock tribute! It was incredible to launch LAGECC with so much fun and joy among fantastic family, friends, and community. <3
Still of the full cast of LAGECC performers at the Dad Rock concert. From left to right, Azalea on inflatable microphone, Kami on real microphone, Church on inflatable banjo, Lisa-Skye on inflatable saxophone, Dar on inflatable electric guitar, and Siobhán on upright pianoStill of the full cast of LAGECC performers at the Dad Rock concert. From left to right, Azalea holds an inflatable microphone, Kami holds a real microphone, Lisa-Skye attempts to eat an inflatable saxophone,Church smashes an inflatable banjo in punk rock fashion, and Dar and Siobhán look on approvingly. On stage, Lisa-Skye takes a very important phone call on a prop telephone between numbers at the LAGECC Dad Rock show. The phone is an old-school wired black bakelite model. Lisa-Skye is standing between the drum set and the piano, and in his signature style rocking green hair, black fingerless gloves, a blue and black flannel shirt, a white and black plaid skirt, and a pink and black necktie. He appears dramatically shocked by what he has learned from this phone call.

oh shit it's Loving Day hooray for Loving v. Virginia, my marriage, and inclusive constitutionalism, and fuck originalism forever tinyurl.com/originalismt...
screenshot of an excerpt from The Originalism Trap reading as follows:

Virginia defended the legality of its anti-miscegenation law on
originalist grounds. The o-word was still not in common usage, but
the analysis is unmistakable: the state argued at length that the
meaning of the Constitution is fixed at the time of adoption and
courts must give effect to the intent of the Framers and the people
who adopted it. If one accepts that premise, they continued, there’s
no constitutional problem with criminalizing interracial marriage. screenshotted excerpt from The Originalism Trap reading as follows:

North Carolina submitted an amicus brief that echoed Virginia’s
claim that courts cannot deviate from the Constitution’s original understanding and expressed skepticism about the Court’s authority
to disrupt historical legal bigotry: “Unless, therefore, the Fourteenth
Amendment is construed as a grand commission which constitutes
the federal courts as a species of judicial privateers to sink every
state ship in sight if they do not like the cut of its sails, then the historic position asserted by Virginia is clearly sound.” We should pay
no attention, apparently, to the fact that the “sail” in question was a
giant, billowing Confederate flag.screenshotted excerpt of The Originalism Trap reading as follows:

The Supreme Court’s decision in Loving should be read as clear
and compelling guidance for constitutional interpretation: the substance of due process is bound up with the values of equality and
antisubordination, and the originalist notion that a case could or
should be resolved based on an identifiable original understanding is
infinitely less instructive than the Fourteenth Amendment’s command to the government to confront America’s caste systems—
chiefly, white supremacy.photo of me and The Husband on our wedding day! we are walking down a tree-lined NYC street, complete with a yellow taxi cab in the background. I am wearing my wedding dress -- a strapless ivory gown that's form fitting up top but then expands into a massive train of tulle -- and The Husband is wearing a great navy blue suit with a pink tie. ERASERS BRING HER FAME
Mrs. Houston, Originator of Rubber Pencil Tips, Brought to St. Louis for Burial
St. Louis, Mo.—The body of Mrs. Mary E. Houston, reputed to be the originator of rubber eraser tips on lead pencils, was brought to St. Louis for burial. Mrs. Houston, who was 85 years old, died at Greenwood, Miss., of apoplexy.
In 1859, Mrs. Houston said, she entered a stationery store in New York city to purchase a pencil. She asked the clerk why rubber tips could not be placed on the pencils. The clerk called several officials of the firm and explained her suggestion. Before she left New York, Mrs. Houston said, lead pencils with rubbers attached were advertised there for the first time. The stationery house refused to admit it was indebted to her for the suggestion.

This thought inspired by a "plan" I got from Claude, which it pretended it had already decided on, that was structured like so:
Excerpted output from Claude Code, in an attempt to generate a plan that it pretended to have already thought about and made decisions about:

Here's the plan: ...

One concern: ...

**Revised approach (Option C)** ...

Wait - this has a problem. ...

Better approach: ...

Actually, the simplest approach: ...

Actually, there's a subtler issue: ...

**Final recommended approach** ...

Here's the concrete plan: ...

Wait - this doesn't solve the thread-safety problem. ...

**Revised Step 1:* ...

Hmm, that's getting unwieldy. ...

Let me take a step back. ...

**Simplest correct plan** ...

Actually, ...

The real question is: ...

But: ...

This is the real problem: ...

**Final plan (concrete)** ...

Wait - ...

I think we need to accept ...

Actually, ...

OK let me write the clean final plan.

...

Does this plan look right to you?

At some point we as a society will realize that LLMs have no inherent interface to the physical world, thus cannot be responsible for any real-world decisions. You can't just hook up WMDs to a random-number generator (even if it has a friendly name) and then say whatever happened wasn't your fault.

After being held in two of them as a boy, I fought for decades urging America to never again build concentration camps and put human beings in them. It breaks my heart to watch this happen twice now in my own lifetime.
Screenshot of an X.com post by The Associated Press (@AP) stating that dozens of immigrant families protested for better treatment behind fences at a Texas detention facility, where a 5-year-old Ecuadorian boy and his father were sent after being detained in Minnesota. Below is a video thumbnail showing a crowd gathered outdoors along a fenced walkway; many people wear bright blue or red outerwear, and some hold signs.

In case anyone needs a timeline cleanse, check out this friend who landed on my knee (twice!) while I was at the park with the kids this week
A mourning cloak butterfly has landed on my knee, possibly attracted by the contrast of the black and white floral pattern of my dress. It has a fuzzy brown body and brown wings tinged with light yellow, with a pattern of iridescent blue spots that are hard to see in this image.
