Looking back I don't know if I've ever earnestly watched a single youtube video over an hour long that justified it's runtime. Every minute past the hour mark feels wasted in retrospect. I don't dream of ever being wealthy, but if I did come into having a stupid amount of money, the first stupid thing I'd spend it on is a suit of knight armor fitted and decorated to my liking. I think deep down I just want to be the coolest person at the ren faire.

I don't have any plans on playing it, but I was looking at Aion 2 on steam and part of me feels a weird nostalgia for trashy f2p mmorpg aesthetics. Impractical titty armor and supernaturally gorgeous player characters in these overwrought fantasy landscapes. It sucks so good.

This whole thread is good, but I like this part specifically. Challenge is good! But constant level of challenge has a bunch of knock-on effects a lot of devs don't seem to consider: -Constant difficulty can be tiring over time -Having easy parts makes the difficult parts feel more impactful

Never mind that AI advocates have created an environment where nuanced is weaponized against critics: If I list 20 reasons why AI is harmful and concede "I guess it's useful in some niche context", that turns into "Ah, so you ADMIT AI has good uses!" The only response left is the most extreme one.

I have the same exact thing for melodrama. Nerds *love* melodrama. Warcraft 3 and WoW remained unbeaten because the blorbos got angry and sad and no one else really wanted to do it. Japan is the only country making these on a mass scale and it's working for them.

"How do you encourage risky behavior in players?" This is one of the most important questions in ttrpgs, and so often answered wrong by designers. The real, true, and factual answer is: Let players succeed often. Not just automatically, but on their rolls, too. Like 75-90% success rate. Really.
