A nonfiction book written in, let’s say, the year 1795, is most likely still around in a library somewhere and every other work it referred to is probably accessible in some archive as well. This makes total sense to investors. If you either win the universe or destroy it, investment logic says you bet the farm, because clearly someone else was gonna destroy the universe anyway and it should be you who wins if it pans out. We should abolish the investor class.

Something that especially feels egregious to me is that a show like Magus Bride cares *so much more* about English, Welsh, Gaelic etc mythology than the incredibly bad shitty series does. It cares so much. And it's so interesting for it. And it reveals how little That Book cared.
