friendly reminder that microsoft was so insistent on not making the final name of their products built off of their codename (as in, the final version of the "directx box" couldn't be called "xbox") that they spent a bunch of money pitching some truly terrible acronyms to focus groups

Public (neo)clouds haven't reckoned with the fact their zero CVE initiatives are offset by video game nerds who keep undisclosed cpu, hypervisor, and TPM exploits secret so nobody will patch consoles that they purchased and owned.

Spaces are, of course, being designed on top of atproto spaces. Give these early explorations a look, think of them as a starting point for Atmospheric communities that could begin in the app, then integrate atproto apps to build completely custom experiences for the people you care about.

we have an idea for communities in the app that we're calling "spaces" — places where people can gather around shared interests or social groups. here's a peek at some early prototypes. these are explorations, not polished or final. looking for feedback, esp from community builders 👀

I like compromises. But one place I don't believe in meeting people halfway, or 5% of the way, is the notion that AI would be better if not based on texts/images that governments have made illegal to copy. "OK, technically legal since you're not copying, but still, you should feel bad." Nope! +

Bootloader unlocking and magisk support on android laptops. support.google.com/googlebook/answer/17389679 (twitter) /topjohnwu/status/2107038683937554656
Unlock your Googlebook's bootloader
A developer or advanced user can unlock their device's bootloader to install a custom version of the operating system or test an app. Most users don't need to unlock their Googlebook's bootloader.
Important:
• Unlocking your device's bootloader erases all data from your device and disables device security.
• Modifications aren't supported by Google and can cause hardware, software, or security issues and may void warranty.
Enable OEM unlocking
To boot with an unlocked bootloader, you need to turn on OEM unlocking.
1. Open your Googlebook's Settings app.
2. Select About device.
3. Under "Device identifiers," select Build number 7 times.
4. Select System.
5. Under "Advanced," select Developer options.
6. To unlock the bootloader, turn on OEM unlocking.
Unlock the bootloader
To unlock the bootloader:
1. To enter recovery mode, disconnect anything that's connected to the device, like a mouse or an external hard drive.
• If you have anything connected to this Googlebook, remove it.
2. Press and hold Esc + F2.
• If you have a device with a detachable screen, press Power U, Volume Up, and Volume Down for 10 seconds.
3. Press and quickly release the power button.
4. Release Esc + F2 once the screen lights up.
5. Release Power U.
• When a message appears, release the other keys.
6. On the recovery screen, select Advanced options › Unlock bootloader.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions.John Wu on Twitter
I've recently been spending time with a Googlebook, exploring consumer-friendly modding and rooting paths, with the ultimate goal of turning it into a dedicated dev machine utilizing its Linux VM environment (Linux Terminal).
In my opinion, Googlebooks are the ideal platform for Android modding. Unlike smartphones where rooting often breaks essential functionality like mobile wallets and banking apps, a Googlebook can just behave like any laptop and access those features by simply using the desktop browser.
From what I can tell, you can unlock the bootloader just like on any existing Pixel device. Under the hood, Googlebook OS is fundamentally Android: it features standard Android fastboot, fastbootd (userspace fastboot), and Android recovery.
However, connecting a Googlebook to a host machine for fastboot flashing over USB doesn't work without specialized cables (at least in its current state).
On top of that, Googlebook OS runs Android in Headless System User Mode (HSUM), which breaks Magisk's assumption of a single primary user (USER_SYSTEM). An adaptation for this is already in the pipeline.
As for how to actually mod and flash the device without USB fastboot access? No need to worry! I've already figured out a solution. Stay tuned

The article elaborates on the strategy.
Zoom in: Reflection's ultimate goal is to pioneer the "Al factory" - a product allowing institutions to spin up their own localized Al ecosystems.
• A company, for example, would take its own proprietary data, use Reflection's models and secure its own computing firepower to build a highly customized, cheap Al system.
• Some institutions, particularly hedge funds and trading firms, are already eager to build proprietary Al systems using their own highly guarded data.
• The startup has already begun testing this concept, announcing a sovereign Al factory partnership with Shinsegae Group in South Korea. The Nvidia factor: The Al factory has been a core vision of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang for years. He has described a scenario combining computing hardware with open-source models, allowing enterprises to retain ownership of their data.
• Top Al users in Western business and government, such as banks or the Pentagon, balk at using highly capable Chinese models due to security risks.
Reflection and other Western players are trying to fill that void.
• For years, Huang has sought to strengthen the open Al ecosystem and has been strongly supportive of Reflection's move toward building a top
open system, according to stories in The Wall Street Journal and The Information.

More generally I think “integrations” like this, the live badge, etc, should have a way for other atproto apps to self declare their support for them in addition to just hardcoding mainstream apps.

I think even if people are massive weirdos or even just evil people, they can still be right about things (if only by accident?). It's important to look at their arguments and deal with them, rather than just saying "we don't accept ideas from that tribe."

• Large Scale Codebase Migrations and
Optimizations: Argon agents are working on migrating C/C++ codebases to Rust across Google - scaling from tens of thousands of lines in core libraries like re2, libgav1 up to 800K+ lines for the Fuchsia Zircon kernel. Given the criticality of many of these systems, such large-scale rewrites are undergoing rigorous automated and manual auditing, emulation testing, and review before rolling out to production.

..attention away because people just treat the group with the generic name as the default.

jordan silver 🔵 @silverlyne.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
The problem I want to avoid is when a broad subject gets a generic name taken by a specific subgroup which has no reason to have that name. I’ve seen it on reddit a few times, like imagine if “the linux topic on bluesky” were to get taken over by omarchy users, and it becomes very hard to move..

jordan silver 🔵 @silverlyne.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I’m more interested in “topics” vs “communities”. I’m not sure what the specific ideas are for these but the line seems blurry between them - the former is (user created, (public|private)) and the latter is ((user created|app-wide), public). I lean against “app-wide” but don’t care much past that.

Installer packages on macOS 27.2 (and maybe earlier 27 releases?) have a new button style. "Install" in this screenshot is the same as "Go Back" but I had my mouse over it. The buttons have a very slight stretch effect if you click the button and drag.
