The City of Ottawa posted the raw speed data from before and after Doug Ford banned speed cameras and the effect is so obvious it's not even necessary put a line marking when that happened. This chart shows the percentage of drivers going 15km/h or more over the posted limit.

That's why, if I'm elected Mayor in 2026, the Social Housing Initiative will be one of the first things back on the docket. Right alongside the budget in our first Council session. This isn't complicated, we just need leadership that gets it.

The OneCity Twitter account posting a CBC News screenshot whose headline reads “Vancouver council rejects motion that sought to add more housing to Shaughnessy neighbourhood”

With the subhed: “Christine Boyle’s motion would have directed staff to create policies for more affordable housing”

It quotes a tweet by ABC Vancouver that reads:

“🏘️ We’re delivering the rental housing Vancouver needs – faster, smarter and in the right places.

⚠️ Make no mistake, there is only one pro-housing party in this city. It’s ABC Vancouver.

Please take a moment to support this motion, from OneCity councilor Lucy Maloney, to create a Tenant Advocacy Office. Here's the comments I sent in to support, but it's always great to keep things short: "I support a Tenant Advocacy Office" is all you need to say! Step-by-step instructions below:
Dear Mayor and Council,

I am writing to support the establishment of a Tenant Advocacy Office.

Tenant rights and protections are a critical part of our housing strategy. Besides being important and fair in their own right to address the inherent imbalance in power between landlords and tenants, they are a critical part of ensuring that our housing shortage is addressed in an equitable manner.

Unfortunately, tenant protections--at both the provincial and municipal level--rely almost entirely on self-advocacy by tenants. The Residential Tenancy Branch, for example, for the most part does not actively enforce tenant rights, but simply provides a dispute resolution mechanism. Similarly, the City of Vancouver's Tenant Relocation and Protection Policy also relies on self-advocacy from tenants to be effective.

This is why it is critical that the municipal government provide a centralized office with responsibility for representing the interests of renters, who make up more than half of the city's households.

Please support this motion.

Sincerely,

-Peter Waldkirch

canada's justice system continues to be far more based than elected officials
Justice Paul Schabas was evidently not impressed, noting that 100 years of automobile history have shown that driving in crowded downtown areas leads to heavy traffic.
"Even though you say it, I don't have to accept that two lanes can carry more than one," Schabas said.
While adding a vehicle lane may save drivers a few minutes at first, in the long term, it will fill up with cars, and travel times will go back to normal, he said — a planning principle known as induced demand.
"That's what all the traffic experts around the world say," the judge said.
