I think the limited number of viable sites is the Achilles heel. Wave seems to have more ubiquitous potential, but also seems to be going nowhere fast. 🤷‍♂️ Maybe it’s just that I’m not seeing the right feeds.

It’s been a bit quiet from the UK’s tidal companies of late. Hopefully this is a good sign as they build the machines for the various CfD allocation rounds. Nice video. I invested in Proteus but they rudely bought back the debt for a 10% return. Which was nice. www.linkedin.com/posts/intere...

Now a twin vs 4-engined. The design seems to be trending towards the current standard, only hybrid. 125miles electric makes a decent dent in a lot of express routes but fuel will be used on the majority of routes. There are turbine warm up times to be considered also. Still wishing them luck!

This year's El Niño continues its climb into uncharted waters; Niño3.4 region anomalies are now at a 3.4C above normal (how fitting!), higher than any prior El Niño event on record. September monthly Niño3.4 anomalies also set a record at 2.9C (beating 2015 and 1877's 2.75C).

Those who earn more should pay more, obviously. But they cannot be systematically excluded from the stuff they pay for, that just doesn’t work.

If you look at income tax, the top 1% pay around 30% of income tax. I’d say that’s a fairly colossal contribution. Where I think it stinks is those who aren’t paying *income* tax, who have ingenious dodges and pay basically no tax whatsoever despite being incredibly wealthy. That isn’t right.

In the face of a *Global diesel shortage* we should: 1) Buy more 2) Encourage every one to buy more 3*) Remove the cost of externalities (i.e. encourage people to buy more!) *It's a typo I think she means UK refineries The absolute tripe you have to spout to appease your pay masters.

It’s either parent. Either trips that line you lose the lot. But really it’s the marginal tax rate it creates: about 80%. If you only see 20p in every £ you earn for doing more work, would you do any more? As a GP/surgeon etc? Or would you put your feet up and let someone else take the strain?

Counter: severe tax cliff edges, particularly in cases like this when the marginal rate spirals into infinity, are bad for everyone. They mutilate incentives and reduce overall wealth. They should be fixed and not avoided simply because they initially benefit wealthy people.

I often see people claim that because clean energy sources like solar, wind, or nuclear are manufactured using fossil fuels their emissions are high. But thats absolutely not the case: even accounting for full lifecycle emissions they are vastly better than burning coal or gas:

Is it by bankrupting & nationalising EdF then running charging at a loss (ie subsidising public charging)? Actually sounds quite good tbh! 😂 Would certainly help people move into EVs and make it much easier for those without a driveway to make the switch.

Reminder that both the "mass vaccination = mass death" nutcases, and the "ongoing deadly pandemic" lot are proven wrong every day. Actuaries - whose jobs depend on getting death rates right regularly publish age-standardised mortality rates. Post-pandemic, back to a steady year-on-year improvement.
Chart showing standardaised mortality rates for England and Wales. After a steady improvement 2016-2019, and then a bunch of pandemic-driven bumps 2020-2022, the lines start improving again 2023-2026 which is shaping up to the best ever.
