This country used to know how to deal with fascists interfering with the peaceful operation of Dover...
Photograph of British servicemen in full panto drag, manning (or possibly daming) a naval gun overlooking the Channel. I'm pretty sure this was taken for propaganda purposes rather than a genuinely spontaneous event - the idea that normal, sometimes silly, life was going on despite (and *to spite*) the Nazis was an important message on the home front.

It feels like a good time to share that a friend of mine went to a Category A prison for peacefully protesting. They didn't conceal their identity, they cooperated when they were arrested, they had no criminal history. But the protest they took part in was a climate protest, so it was terrorism.

Went out to the local gay bar last night and you could tell everyone else there was trying to work out how this group of gays aged 22-62 knew eachother, and you could also tell they would never believe that the reason was "church"

The WGS is, as far as I can see, being reviewed because it is better than other gender services in the UK. The figures for treatment are higher because the wait list in Wales can be measured in months/years, rather than literal decades.

A* treatment today from the Cardiff emergency dental team, but now the local anaesthetic has worn off I feel like I've been punched in the jaw. Still less pain that I was experiencing before, though.

Revived this gorgeous Victorian communion set that I was gifted by a retiring priest around the time of my ordination. I thought it would need specialist repair and replating, but a bit of hot water and gentle cleaning has worked miracles!
A small silver chalice and paten on top of a grey laptop on a desk. The paten has IHS and "this is my body given for you" engraved into it, and the chalice also has IHS engraved into the visible side.

It's such a joy to add ember cards to my (tiny, toddler- and puppy-proof) oratory at this time of year. If you'd like me to pray for you, please send your card to: Mthr Sian Parker c/o St Peter's Church St Fagans Road Cardiff CF5 3DW
A small prayer desk in the corner of a room. On the prayer desk there is a lit tealight. Above the desk on the wall there are 8 ember cards underneath icons of Mary, Teilo, and Jesus.

When I first became a Christian, I was told by my uni's Christian Union I needed to find a prayer partner. Everyone who I asked refused. At college, we were encouraged to form small prayer groups. Nobody ever invited me to one. Now, I've found the bestest little prayer companion in the world.

Monday mood: This Heron standing very still, hoping no one asks it to do anything today. #MondayMotivation
A Grey Heron stands perfectly still, its long neck stretched tall and beak pointed forward, eyes wide and unblinking. Its sleek grey feathers and sharp stare give off an air of quiet determination...or perhaps silent desperation? With an expression that screams, "If I don’t move, maybe no one will ask me to do anything," it perfectly captures that classic Monday mood.

I've said it already but sadly this erasure is only going to continue until Parliament votes to undo FWS and restore the original meaning of the Equality Act. We need much more public pressure and unequivocal demands for this restoration from minor parties and supportive MPs. Nothing less

This is the best product listing copy I’ve ever read
Nothing lasts forever, and that includes the Roman Empire.

The Fall of Rome-Scented Candle smells like cypress trees and red wine. Light it and watch the Roman forum melt into a puddle of wax while you quietly contemplate the impermanence of civilizations and/or candles.

Do you think individual Romans understood that their civilization was collapsing? Or did it happen so gradually that they were able to ignore the warning signs—international trade breaking down, the senate becoming a rubber stamp for the supreme leader, and political violence becoming expected during transfers of power?

It’s hard to say, because it’s impossible to imagine being in that kind of situation. In any event—hope you enjoy the candle!

I'm slowly recovering from the intensity (and the heat!) of the past few days. The whole experience has been simultaneously breathtaking and inspiring. Particularly grateful to @scholarpriest.bsky.social for taking this picture of me at the altar during my first mass.
An altar, behind which I the priest am stood in a red chasuble with arms outstretched and eyes closed. To the left is a woman with dark hair wearing a white alb and red stole worn as a deacon. The wall behind is cream, with sunrays shining off it, and high up on the wall is a large wooden cross with jagged ironwork over the top.

We left our toddler alone for literally 2 minutes. In that time, said toddler ate a stick of chalk, threw up chunks of chalk, and had just started eating the chunks. When I walked in, she smiled and pointed at the chalk vomit. Good grief.

Spent a wonderful weekend on retreat with the nuns in Fairacres. If you need space, silence, sung offices (with feline co-worshipers!), and an orchard around which to amble, this is the place to find it.
In the foreground is a rectangular pond containing several plants and rocky areas. There is a lily flower in the middle of the pond. In the distance behind the pond stand a large tree in the middle of a lawn, and to the right of the pond is the edge of a white building. In the foreground, resting at the edge of the pond, is a cup of tea and a book with a blue cover titled 'God and Darkness: a Carmelite perspective'
