The way BSky shows you ‘how it started/how it’s going’ single screen snapshots of the beginning and middle of a long arse conversation can be quite the record scratch :D
A tweet about how the OP no longer takes IQ anywhere near as seriously as he once did, displayed above a reply way down thread about someone’s aunt having had Opinions about crusts on bread.

Actually, to be specific, the problem is that AI safety discourse keeps warning me “what if this turns into The Terminator or BSG?” Meanwhile real AI is doing New Wave SF or Borgesian fabulation, both of which are *more interesting genres.* It’s already outwriting its critics.

Friends. I, too wrote off Digger trailers as a pretentious ham-fisted satire about climate change & oligarchy starring actors unaffected by the troubles of the industry. Turns out it might be one of the smartest, funniest, most tragic films about storytelling and I was just being a judgmental bitch.

Learning yet-another-scripting-language to concisely embed diagrams in the docs of my side project. I've used typst+python+matplotlib in the past, but that needed quarto to mediate (made worse because I was pushing to confluence...), and updating later entailed a hunt for sources and credentials.
some markup, namely

TinyCrunch has a two pass system where `b` decompresses to `B` then `a` decompresses to `A`, using the codec's in-place mode to ensure the final output is seamless.

This is incredible and I hope this caring soul tells the story just exactly like this to HR.
Am I wrong for removing a wheelchair user from an elevator when I thought it might snap?
Context: I grew up in a small town and only ever really used elevators at the mall. I now live in a big city and take one every day at work.
Me and a bunch of other people, including a wheelchair user, were waiting to use the elevator at my work and all got on at once. A sign came on in red lights saying that we were over the elevator's weight capacity and the doors stated open. Since I mostly know about elevators from movies before this year, my first thought was that this was an emergency where the cable could snap.
I pride myselt in caring for others and my first reaction was to assist the person who was least able to help themselves by removing her from danger. I gently pushed her off and the warning light went off and the doors closed, carrying the rest of us all to the floors we punched in.
She was very upset about this and reported me to HR.
They called me in on Monday and had me take the week off and I explained everything. They said they'll talk to me this following Monday.
I feel like I might be about to get fired for trying to be a good Samaritan. Am I in the wrong?

Huh. Today in "always look up the etymology because sometimes you're just repeating a myth but sometimes it's weirder and more incredible than you could have possibly imagined" www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/c...
Screenshot of Merriam Webster etymology note for cockamamie:
By the look and sound of it, cockamamie (also spelled "cockamamy") could have something to do with a rooster and the outrageous sound it makes. But in fact, cockamamie is believed to be an altered form of the term decalcomania, which refers to the process, invented in the mid-19th century, of transferring pictures and designs from specially prepared paper to surfaces such as glass or porcelain. (The word referring to the picture or design itself, decal, is a shortening of decalcomania.) The word decalcomania comes from French, with décalcomanie combining the verb décalquer, meaning "to trace" or "to transfer by tracing," and -manie, meaning "-mania." Starting in the 1930s, painted strips of paper with images capable of being transferred to the skin were called decals or—in children's slang—cockamamies. Those familiar with today's temporary tattoos will understand quickly that these were regarded by many as silly novelties, lending the word cockamamie the necessary leeway for application to anything ridiculous.
