It's been 7 months since I gave evidence at the UKGov select committee hearing, on the policy changes at UKRI which have had a catastrophic impact on funding for UK astronomy and particle physics. When asked if we thought we were the "canary in the coal mine", we said yes..... we weren't wrong. 🧪🔭⚛️

Not to oversimplify but maybe it’s not surprising the two grossest abusers of 21st C English football’s financial regulations were clubs owned by people used to turning resource wealth into political power, linked to or parts of authoritarian regimes with equal disregard for international law.

For tedious reasons I am doing an online Ethics training module and the bit about making ethical decisions links to a YouTube interview with Daniel Kahneman which is clearly using auto subtitles as he's labelled 'conman' every time his name is mentioned which is unfortunate in this context

Short of far-out sci-fi solutions like programmable matter, there is no way to solve the space problem in cities. Cars simply take up way too much space. There no reason why one or two people need a 2-4 ton living room to get across town.

The two #Equinox are the only days when the Sun rises due East and sets due West, everywhere. At the Dec solstice the sun rises in the S-East. At the June solstice it rises in the N-East. As the days pass between the two, the sunrise position slowly changes passing due East each equinox.🤩 🔭🧪

Every time I return to Paris, I notice they've done more to reclaim streets from drivers and cars, including removing on-street parking, protecting cyclists from drivers, and prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists in shared spaces. Other cities can learn a lot from Paris.

As online search deteriorates, we're going to need decent references. No personal experience of Alexis's work but I'm all for skilled professionals doing their thing
