So much profit, and yet so few houses. The Government’s entire housing strategy -insofar as they have one- is to make it so profitable to own residential property that companies will want to make more of the property instead of making more profit from sweating their existing assets.

At EU level, the Irish Government proposing any tech policy immediately renders that policy suspect, if not automatically unacceptable. We are seen as nought a paid for and every time our Govt does something in this area it reaffirms that perception.

What about the cost of NOT investing in public transports? Air quality, missed climate targets, traffic congestion - there’s more to public transport that ticket sales. It doesn’t make sense to treat it as an enterprise that needs to break even.

In Tasmania, as a cost of living measure during the fule crisis, the Government has made all public transport free until 1 July 2027. Government is not meant to make a profit. It's meant to serve the needs of the people. That's why it's called the public sector - distinct from the privte sector.
