As both an academic and a writer, I am repelled by the "this looks like a long document. Would you like me to summarize it for you?" that seems to appear at the top of every pdf viewer now. NO. The *entire point* of good writing (either books or journal papers) is that every sentence has a purpose.

aside from everything else, it's very funny to pretend that hiring "GHOST writers" ever made you, yourself, an author. you are simply describing two types of guys who did not write a book

the 'authors shouldn't use big words' thing is so antithetical to the way I read. It's a JOY to learn a new word. Isn't it exciting to come away from a book knowing something you didn't?

Fiction and fantasy aren't "fake" any more than light seen through a prism is fake. It's just seen from a different perspective. Light through a prism is still light. Truth through a story is still the truth.

I can’t stop thinking about this poem from the Widow’s Bay finale 😭
The World
is violent and mercurial
it will have its way with you.
We are saved only by love --
love for each other and the love
that we pour into the art we
feel compelled to share: being a parent, a writer, being a painter, being a friend.
We live in a perpetually burning
building and what we must save
from it all the time is love.

An academic dark fantasy where patriarchal society, government corruption, and internalized misogyny highlight the reality of living as a disabled woman through a speculative lens, and the grief, pain, and rage that come with it.
A graphic with comp titles, as follows:

The female rage of Weyward
The societal corruption of Blood Over Bright Haven
The nature and prose of Circe

The graphic is decorated with leaves, a spider, a snake, a raven, on a map background.A graphic with the novel title (fruit of spoiled seed by Shannon Reault) and a snake peak of chapter 1. The graphic has a background of wood decorated with a stone cottage and a wooden sign that reads “Strega’s Apothecary”

The excerpt is as follows:

I spent every day of my life flanked by the ocean on all sides. Wrapped in its furious embrace, brewing storms and delivering sieges on the very same waves that pruned me as a child. At some indiscernible time between shedding my adolescence, and growing an armor of calloused skin, I’d come to fear it. A realm of unruly mystery connecting our shores to the hazy lands on the horizon – allies and enemies alike. It couldn’t be trusted.
This was why Ouros Island needed protection. My protection. It was my destiny, etched into my bones, I was sure of it. And yet, my feet remained firmly planted at the edge of the docks, wary to stray from the solid safety of land. But I didn’t have a choice. If I stood a chance of keeping this ailment a secret, I needed a cure. And there was only one place to get one.
